CWU are complicit in this demise for me, the lopsided agreements of past have weakened the workforce over a couple decades. The agreements looking back always contradicted themselves, part timers made up is one prime example of failures from a union. CWU’s approach to matters has always been a pick and choose your battles.

It’s only now the folk who never approached/relied on the union, who pay every week for best interests in the workplace, are now seeing the spineless (can’t swear) for what they’re.

Unlike any of those jobs though, there’s nothing to take pride in here, you almost need the money to suffer the humiliation of thinking the jobs more worthwhile than it is. It’s an in between job at best and most of us have got stuck here

What that will do is encourage people to apply for the role because it’s a stop gap for a year or so or because it’s just ‘another job’ until something else comes along.
And people that are happy for that short term role are less likely to bother joining a union.
IMO that’s why the union were desperate to stop that. The days where every postie sees it as their career are fading.

At least they get housing allowance and free medical care! A lot of us posties aren't young and still living with mum and dad. No offence intended if you are obviously.

I'm not skilled in anything,applied for a porters hospital job been in the job 25 years less brutal on the body and inside nice and warm and I'm 58

I have a best mate who is a hospital porter. He walks further than I do at work.

Can't help you out, the job is f****d, our DOM reckons in 4 to 5 years time, this job will mostly be done by migrants, get out while you can

Not sure about the migrants claim but people always say the job is fu***d and then adjust.
When I first started people would have a choice to say a few words to everyone when they were retiring and they would always say “job isn’t what it used to be. Going downhill….” Etc

Some new starters might come in and find the job ideal. Others might moan but not find any other suitable employment. And for some it will be unbearable and they will find something else that suits them.

RM are starting to merge walks, a few batches on the CSS over the last couple of weeks now half half the number of walks with no sign of other batches for the same DOs getting walks added
