Well I'm voting yes take the money, late starts varied hours over the year not a problem as I never finish anyway, any one thinking we would be better off even Royal Mail were to go into liquidation is an idiot
You are selling yourself very short!
Vote No and make Mr Ward & ST sweat out a better deal.

Who agrees with uncle Terry that they would rather see RM rot and burn than have it handed over to them, which what this agreement effectively is.

Even a potential administration would be better than this surrender!
Really, I mean really. Be careful what you wish for. After high inflation and high interest rates comes high unemployment. Vacancies fell last month. There will be another interest rate rise next month. Nothing or nobody is too big to fail.

This site is populated by selfish hardline extremists who only care about sounding tough.
If people detest the job so much and think that working in a Supermarket is better, then crack on and leave!
I'm confident that the majority of Postal Workers are pragmatic and realise that this is the best we are going to get, whilst it's not the best deal it's better than going into administration.

We haven't felt the pain from higher interest rates yet as it takes months for the impact to filter through as people's fixed rate mortgage deals come to an end and businesses have to refinance at higher interest rates.

I think pragmatism will see this deal over the line. It’s not a good deal but in the circumstances I’m not sure we could have got any better.

I think renationalising it wouldn’t be the dream scenario people think it would be. The public wouldn’t want to subsidise the USO with the current volume of letters.

Well said. We may have lost this battle through poor tactics but as long as we win the war. Take the deal, regroup and plan for the next battle. Anybody who thinks that if RM go into administration it will stay the same is barking mad. This government don't care about people dying so they won't care about letters and parcels not being delivered. If the government does step in they will reduce the workforce, restructure and shred the T&Cs. This government will jump at any opportunity to reduce union power. The bill to outlaw strikes by workers who provide essential services is going through now. All the government have to do is add RM to the list.

The later finish isn't so we can uphold the USO. It's to grow parcels. We will still fail the mail.
That's why every statement from the RM spokesperson says due to high levels of sickness or local issues...we try to deliver the next day.

RMC is a "Discussion Forum" so it's not a surprise to get conflicting points of view. I only hope those points of view are genuine and not a Management BS Tactic, I'm always suspicious when a New poster jumps into a controversial subject with a minimal number of posts :hmmmm

I feel there is a definate divide between the "Old Guard", who could be seen as more Militant and willing to push back on principle, and the "Pragmatists", who worry more about mortgages and finding alternative employment. Neither group is going to convince the other to change their minds. In the end it's down to your own moral compass.

Provided you can live with your own decision ......... and don't come on here bitching in a few months when things don't go the way you thought they would. :cuppa

It's nothing to do with morals. Your last line works both ways. Don't bitch when standing in the dole queue.

The only divide is between pragmatism and idealism and regardless of seniority, people can fall into either camp.
If you think that the economy has a bright future then the idealists will be correct and a better deal will appear, however if like me you expect the economy to deteriorate then being pragmatic in the hope that you keep your job will be the better option.

I don't think we have "Dole Queues" anymore Timbo! So you don't believe anyone should have a different opinion to you?

Of course my last line cuts both ways, it was meant to:

You have two choices, accept a crap deal or gamble with yours and other people's employment.
If Royal Mail go under then there are plenty of competitors to carve up our business, who knows you may have to take up employment with one of our rivals on inferior terms to what we have just been offered.

I'll agree with that :thumbup I suppose it boils down to how much you value your current job? Some jobs are easier than others in RM. :cuppa
