Re: What I meant by reading the room
Martin, you clearly know how misjudged your"read the room" comment was.
We all appreciate your updates and you unfairly become a lightning rod on here when people are angry. But that only happened because the deal we've fought for is so terrible.
Ironically you didn't read the room.

Thanks for the update Martin
But we really don't need lots of meetings to remind us of how sh*t the deal is or how closely alligned it is to Royal Mail's original proposals

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Can't believe you actually came on here and said you know it's a pants deal but vote for it or face more change being forced on us or lose more jobs in process. Great sell there guys. You got part timers killing themselves to even get a fraction of overtime now to make a living on a s**t overtime rate and of course it's pro rata lump sum for a measly £500 so gonna be hit the worst for it. Wouldn't even cover a a fraction that we lost in the strikes.

Why the personal attack.KennethBoon wrote: ↑21 Apr 2023, 21:12Martin Walsh wrote: ↑21 Apr 2023, 21:03Listen this is an agreement which needs explaining and seen in the round.
The choice for everyone in the ballot is :
1. Vote Yes and whilst the agreement is not perfect and is an agreement which has changed all of Royal Mail’s plans for the better.
2. Or vote no and we will go on strike again and Royal Mail will have to show to the market it has a business plan which it can implement to keep it a going concern. That means they need to introduce more change by executive action and cut more jobs.
If they don’t avoid going to the wall then we are in uncharted waters , any administrator will not be interested in pay , sick pay , revisions , flexibility, all it will do is try and keep uso going and that means thousands of job losses and cuts to terms and conditions.
Do you really think if we thought there was anything else we could get we would have not tried.
Lots who are angry about pay would be even more angry if the union gambled with your jobs and Royal Mail went in administration and you stopped getting regular pay etc.
We do believe this agreement is the best we can get in the current circumstances and It has protections throughout.
On sick pay it was Hobson’s choice Royal Mail were either imposing it by Executive action or we modified the change including stopping the company automatically issuing stage 1 and 2 absences and having the ability if sick levels drop to remove the SSP pay for absences after the 1st.
There will be lots of meetings to explain this deal over the next few weeks and then the members will design but go into either option with your eyes open.

Emotion getting the better of him I'd have thought but I agree absolutely no need for the personal attack as Martin is only trying to inform us all (of a sh** deal but that's not his fault)aiden01 wrote: ↑21 Apr 2023, 22:33Why the personal attack.KennethBoon wrote: ↑21 Apr 2023, 21:12Martin Walsh wrote: ↑21 Apr 2023, 21:03Listen this is an agreement which needs explaining and seen in the round.

Can you explain how they will keep the USO going by getting rid of us postal workers? Aren't we the ones delivering the USO, perhaps it's just been a very long day and I'm missing some detail here.Martin Walsh wrote: ↑21 Apr 2023, 21:03

Re: What I meant by reading the room
Thing is we are all in a no win situation they gave away £567 MILLION in share dividends so no money but if we go on strike that will make the situation worse and may result in administration or flat out collapse and no pay deal but change. In my book take the deal accept the job is f****d and either do another job or quietly quit ie do as little as possible and pick up your wage and be as inflexible as possible given the agreement. The agreement is s**t but it always was going to be so given the £567 Million deficit, And we can lose pay and or our jobs or just carry on and do as little as possible and get paid while looking for better job's!

Personal attacks are the scoundrel's last place of refuge. They have lost the argument when they resort to personal attacks. That is if they ever had a tangible case in the first place.aiden01 wrote: ↑21 Apr 2023, 22:33Why the personal attack.KennethBoon wrote: ↑21 Apr 2023, 21:12Martin Walsh wrote: ↑21 Apr 2023, 21:03Listen this is an agreement which needs explaining and seen in the round.

The union already did gamble with our jobs...leading us down this path when you clearly didn't know what you were doing. The members have done all as we were guided to do, and stuck together believing you were going to sort a fair deal. Lies after lies, and now the audacity to try and force us into a deal. Utter disgrace. Now as gamblers you need to suck up your loss and leave.

Re: What I meant by reading the room
When we consider what plans the company had for us and the brazenness in Royal Mail's treatment of many of the unions senior reps, the deal on the table now looks much more palatable.
I understand peoples frustrations but attacking the union as much as some on here are is unfair I feel personally.
I think while many are angry/livid and the mood of the shop floor is palpable many still trust this is the best they could do in circumstances.
Aside from the companies ongoing attempt to permanently remove the union from
every office and our voice (every member) at the top table, they then had to navigate the real threat of adminstration.
Sick pay is a bitter pill to swallow but still protects those long term illness and injuries.
It is also still superior terms, conditions and pay then most/all unskilled work.
Any watering down of existing terms and conditions is unfortunate but circumstances determine outcomes at times.
Shoot me down, that is fine.
I feel this thread needed some balance
