Royal Mail is introducing the changes in a bid to save people time



Royal Mail has announced upcoming changes to how parcels will be delivered from next month.

From May 2, if you are not home when a parcel is being delivered, a "something for you" card will be posted through your door, detailing whether the parcel has been left in a safe place or with a neighbour. If neither of these options were possible, postal workers will automatically redeliver any parcels that won't fit through the letter box or need a signature the next working day.

The changes aim to save people time by not having to visit a collection point. Delivery can also be rescheduled for a more convenient day, which will remain a free service.

This can either be to the original home address, to a neighbour, safe place or a local post office. However, the changes mean it will no longer be possible to collect parcels after the first delivery attempt.

Instead, people will have to wait until Royal Mail has attempted the automatic redelivery the next working day, which excludes Sundays and bank holidays. If the redelivery is unsuccessful, the postie will leave another something for you card stating your options.

You can choose to organise another redelivery or you can collect your item from your local customer service point from the following working day. If the item remains undelivered and without instruction from the recipient, the item will be stored for up to 18 days (21 days where customs fees are due) and if not collected or redelivered it will be returned to the sender.

More grief for those at the sharp end, if folk are at work during the (1st attempt) day then they are more than likely at work during the (2nd attempt) day, what if they require it urgently, who's going to get it in the neck, not the idiots that think up this rubbish.

From my own perspective as a customer, I hate when couriers do this, and its inefficient too.
From a delivery point of view it sucks, I will now have to allow more time to book in the no answers when I get back, and sort off the second attempted ones separately.
This will add more indoor time and less time to deliver packets, ATM I get about 1-2% of packets from the previous day which have asked for a redelivery. That will go up to 100%, so will mean leaving significant numbers of new packets that comes in that day until whenever!?

im sorry but we are doing everything now, what is the point in the callers office if we are doing their work, what will the callers do?? less work as usual no point keeping callers office on, posties already stressed out now we are doing their work

They’re doing everything backwards, again.
This is actually a good idea ONLY when you have a fully functioning delivery option service and an accurate time of delivery for every parcel. Look at DPD and how they operate.
We have NONE of that, because we currently CANT, we have the mail and timed specials. Plus first/second class and signed for have no tracking at all anyway!
All this means now is we’ve double/treble the work the following day, perpetually.
You could not make this s**t up and it won’t work.
