Half the workforce believes there to be a sinister Vesa equity led race to gut the company and strip all of it's assets, and if that's the case going on strike (aka giving the company more ammo in the quest to lose millions,) is doing exactly what they want... you know they'll be slinging cash at managers, casuals, and van hire companies throughout whilst blaming the workforce and USO for their depleted finances.
"If you fight you'll sometimes lose. If you don't you'll always lose" is a nice slogan, but we seem to be fighting kamikaze pilots this time around, who have committed themselves to absolute destruction of the company whatever happens

Re: Why have no strike dates been announced
It shows a position of strength and it unites the members.
Having a record ballot of 96% in favour of action and just sitting on that when talks are going nowhere is farcical.
There was a deadline of negotiations set for 12th march, at the same time preliminary strikes dates could have been issued to show intent.
But no, RM have led this dispute from the beginning, dictating when/how talks should take place, calling them off at their say so, Christmas time when the best/final offer was out, now this. The union just play catch-up, when they should be utilising the strength of the members to get to an acceptable position faster.

Re: Why have no strike dates been announced
We've been in talks for months on and off that have resulted in this latest proposal. Completely garbage one at that in my eyes, what do you expect us to do other than strike?
We've been given the run around, all the while RM are bulldozing changes. How do you recommend getting a good deal? Keep talking until this time next year? We want a deal now, the CWU have met them more than half way. They fecked the company up why should we bend over anymore?

So we have been striking on and off for over 6 months, during the busiest periods, and the sum result has been a ‘completely garbage’ deal, and your logic dictates that more striking is the way to go? The way we have been targeting our strikes has been poor a 1 day strike was never going to touch royal mail it should have been 3 or 4 days at least a poor decision by our leaders

Re: Why have no strike dates been announced
That’s true but going all out for prolonged periods was never going to happen. For such a unionised workforce we are also a very divided one.claystones wrote: ↑09 Apr 2023, 07:34The way we have been targeting our strikes has been poor a 1 day strike was never going to touch royal mail it should have been 3 or 4 days at least a poor decision by our leaders
To many working in Royal Mail have the ‘I’m alright Jack attitude’. I mean how many times have you seen someone on an easy duty help someone who swamped with work?
I guarantee many would be going back to work after day three of any all out strike. We are also dealing with a different employer who doesn’t care about its staff, quality of service or its customer base. It’s tasked with doing one thing and that’s maximum profits and dividends for shareholders.

Re: Why have no strike dates been announced
The strikes at xmas were not a failure it got them back around the table all be it a bit dishonestly because they have an agenda and don't want to deviate from that, they have tried every trick in the book to demoralise us with all sorts of threats and stalling tactics to break the membership, strikes are the only way to get this lot back around the table ,it is and always was the only way workers could get management to change course,we have got to the point now you have to pick a side, you either want s**t pay and conditions for the rest of your life or find another job or go with the union and hopefully restore some dignity, respect, decent pay and conditions we all deserve in a physically demanding job,but the union in my opinion have to start another round of strike action to focus their minds. If it ends up with administration or losing our jobs surely its better to jack it all in than work under Royal Mails vision for the future ,it will only get worse as the years go on just look at Amazon now calling strikes shall we just let them degrade our jobs to that gig economy where in 2 to 3 years time we will be striking again in an even worse place. Its a no brainer CALL THE STRIKES !!!!!!

Re: Why have no strike dates been announced
Well said its the only way now,in the 80's it was a 3 week all out but by the end an agreement was reached it was not a groundbreaking one but one that satisfied the workers if we had done that at the beginning it would of been over by now .claystones wrote: ↑09 Apr 2023, 07:34The way we have been targeting our strikes has been poor a 1 day strike was never going to touch royal mail it should have been 3 or 4 days at least a poor decision by our leaders

Re: Why have no strike dates been announced
The strikes have been a farce let's face it. If we stayed out for longer periods IE weeks this would of been resolved months ago. And your suggestion is carry on talking for another year whilst RM give us the run around? Bulldozing changes and stringing out our pay rise?LouBarlow wrote: ↑09 Apr 2023, 07:13So we have been striking on and off for over 6 months, during the busiest periods, and the sum result has been a ‘completely garbage’ deal, and your logic dictates that more striking is the way to go? We want what we deserve for last year and this year then we can start talking about pay again after that.
What's the point in looking too far ahead agreements with these will get torn up further down the line!

No I am saying that the proposition should be put to the members to vote on. Further talks at this point are worthless as both the CWU and RM are in survival mode and know they cannot compromise further otherwise they risk their own necks.spaceman07 wrote: ↑09 Apr 2023, 08:30The strikes have been a farce let's face it. At this point change is already being rammed through. Strikes are not going to suddenly reverse the woeful recent revisions, or bring about any return to working practises we had previously.

I wouldn't put it past RM to ram through another round of EA, with the talks having broken downLouBarlow wrote: ↑09 Apr 2023, 09:04No I am saying that the proposition should be put to the members to vote on.
