They're all out tonight.

Len remember the minimum wage/ living wage? There is an obligation. They don't like it but it's there.

The overriding objectives in law with a privatized industry are financial returns to the share holder.

There is no obligation on any employer to give its employees a pay rise.
There isn’t but as they will find out soon enough where will the staff come from that want to work for them? That reason alone the company is done for without even mentioning the rest of the mismanagement.
Basically retain staff that is their only objective and they are failing to do just that by their own actions!

Feck Red you really are a martyr to your own cause. For a start we are fighting for are rights and pay, nobody elses public, private or otherwise. If thats your best argument go back to your monthly paid friends and tell them we dont want it.
I am not a martyr and none of you are interested in my arguments. At the end of the day you are just postmen. You deserve nothing more than what's been offered and probably a lot less.

Thanks for that Red you deserve all the abuse you get on this forum. You obviously think that intellectually you are better than us and financially worth more too. Every argument you lose you cry like a baby about abuse and harassment, and i have yet to see you win one. Feel free to feck off somewhere you will feel more valued.

Inflation is compounded too.

2022 inflation rate was 10.5%
2023 inflation rate - lets say an optimistic 7% overall for the year
2024 - anybodies guess but lets say 3.5% being super optimistic

Meaning that a basket of typical consumer products costing £100 in December 2021 will cost £122.37 by December 2024. So over the 3 years from Dec 21 to December '24 prices will have increased 22.37% based on my optimistic figures for inflation in 2023 and 2024.

will a 10% pay rise over 3 years cover this? Short answer - No!!!

We should be getting a pay rise that matches these figures or otherwise we are getting poorer every year. And not only will we be earning less but we will by all accounts be working harder for less money.

Is this what you want??

But, oh, "there isn't enough money" or "oh, R.M is broke"

R.M should raise their prices to cover these increases and should cut costs by not wasting money.

The least that the company should do is fairly (not over) compensate the workers whose labour created huge profits in the good times - and note, where was the profit share offer during the pandemic? Surprised the shareholders didn't all come out on some balcony and clap us.
If your wages are 300 a week, and your shopping now comes to 122 instead of the 100 it doesn’t mean you need a pay raise of the same rate as inflation?

300 - 100 = 200.
Now it’s 300 - 122 = 178.

To keep the original 200 profit figure you don’t need to add 22% to your wage. You just need to add 7% or so. 300 + 7% is 321. (So it would be 7.3%)

So 322 ~ 122 = 200 again.

If we add 22% to 300 (the figure you used for inflation)
It would leave our wages at 366. Meaning we are far richer.
Now that suits me of course but we don’t need to match inflation to stay the same.
What gibberish is this? Who said anything about shopping coming to 100? Except you?

Most people are spending all of their wages when they are earning anything under 40,000 a year and definitely under 30.000 a year which is the case of most posties.
The ‘gibberish’ came from the post before. If, like you said, that most posties have nothing left after paying their bills then yes. You would need pay raise to be same as inflation. But not every postman is paying 300 a week on bills and shopping.
I bet a lot are though!!

Just postmen AND women, who worked through the pandemic when most people stayed at home, frightened, yes frightened for their lives as we didn’t know how it transmitted, how it affected people and was it going to hospitalise us? Just post people who deliver people’s prescriptions and meds, hospital letters, letters from loved ones people rarely see which brings them joy. Just post people who make a point of talking to lonely people and sometimes we are their only contact. Just post people who walk miles and miles every day in all weathers much to the detriment of our knees/ ankles and shoulders. But we are just post people Len what do we know? Len you are just on here to wind people up which in itself is very sad! You must live a sad and lonely life to take great pleasure out of all this and I genuinely pity you!

Why would I do that? I’m happy with the current pay. I’ll be slightly happier with the planned increase.
