Replacing staff with agency workers

Post by Banger4219 »

So i work in a Mail Centre where they have just laid staff off. And yet this week we have about 60 agency workers in doing the job that these people wer doing. WHAT A JOKE. And what is our great Union doing. Absolutely nothing.

Our DO still has agency regularly, weirdly they've dropped the angard (which RM own) and kept the ones who boast they're on "£15.50 an hour" as their reason for coming off a walk and sitting on the frames for an hour or two

Does this count as fire and rehire? Worth looking into for those who were laid off.

I just don't get it. The staff wer long term temporary and had been here a few years. And we have staff waiting to finish on VR's. SO if you don't need these people why are Agency staff needed.?

No these people had uniforms and a contract with royal mail. And the VR members are still here. My point is if they can't cope now HOW ARE THEY GOING TO COPE WHEN these people are gone.

Know long term agency workers in deliveries that have uniforms

Anyway, if they were on a fixed term temporary contract, they were fully aware the day their contract ended.

Don't know if it is still the case as they have ripped agreements up but?

Believe any fixed term contracted staff after two years had to be made up substantive staff.

Even in the late eighties a new recruit had a temporary contract until two years service.

As it stands now, the employer can get rid of you in the first two years and the dismissal is automatically fair, no matter what contract you are on. (except DDA/EA)

Instead of slagging off agency staff why do you not campaign for them to be given contracts?
