The trouble with this vote is that the union are dealing with a beast that does not care ,look at the track record of the board its up to its eyes in failure ,abd they are paid handsomely to fail .I have never known a board that want a company to fail like they have .They have subjected a loyal work force to mental torture fir over three to five years .No union no matter how skilled can deal with people at the top that don't care .Fudge a deal turn up go home quite quitting is the way forward for all your mental health .

Replace them with who?
With somebody who knows what they are doing
That’s not a serious answer is it. They have to be elected and also be union members. Is there anybody you know in the union who you think could do a better job?
Yes the one's who are suspended.

Why would we get back pay now? A year's back pay could cost £100m.Maybe we just keep the 2 per cent last year then this April another 4 per cent?.
Do you know the rate of inflation?

I just don't believe the finances are that bad, that crap has been spouted for at least 20yrs.
Why? The wage bill at RM is about 50% of the revenue, before other expenditure. If the money we're taking in now from letters/parcels is less than what's required to pay the bills, then the company is in a loss making position. It can't go on indefinitely, as eventually the cash/credit will dry up.
Then they should not have pissed away 100's millions on this that and the other
This supposed 'perilous' financial situation is 100% the fault of RM bosses not us - THEY caused it so THEY pay the price
Every dispute RM bring out the begging bowl - same s**t every time
It is always the workers giving away this and that in our T&C's while RM gives us crumbs in return - all with the CWU's blessing
Repeat and rinse ever thus

It doesn't really matter who's fault it is. The reality is the company will probably go under in its existing form.

COVID-19 was merely a big sticking plaster on the finances because of the huge volumes of parcels being sent. That's gone now.

Whistl delivering letters folded suddenly in 2015 and they cherry picked the 'profitable' areas. The writing was obviously on the cards for Royal Mail and the 6 day USO.

ive worked in other jobs before here who had different unions and i tell u hands down this is the worst union ive ever had the misfortune of being a member of, represent themselves rather than the members who feed their pockets, had us out for 18 days of strike for nothing, claiming the company is skint like a broken record now, well why the hell did yous have us on strike if u thought the company coudln't afford a decent payrise??? i wondered whats changed in the last few months, union starting to back the company, so if the company says yous area reps can keep ur jobs but we might need to screw over the postmen what u think?????????

I'm not sure referencing Whistle is of any use, they didnt really cherry pick areas did they ? Surely they just didn't have the infrastructure and it would have been far too expensive to put it in place?

So your happy with with a failed business plan what did for whistle was the minimum wage coming in and yet we have the same clown management to save money are pushing us to that minimum wage and people will leave and find better jobs and terms of employment. With realistic workloads and less confrontation all I am saying is the managers should get their walking boots on because they will be doing a hell of a lot of it in the coming years!

The above is so easy to say. However if your wrong your free from any negative circumstances.

If the PE are wrong we talking thousands of our members jobs.

That is an huge gamble and one which concentrates my mind every minute of the day.

Like I said crunch time is the end of this week.
Crunch time was supposed to be the 12th, then it was supposed to be end of this week, now it’s next week? In fact I remember you typing on here around 5 months ago when talks started with Acas and you were spouting the same nonsense that RM desperately needed a deal and that talks were reaching a crucial stage. Stop stringing us all along. Time to admit Dave and the PEC have let us all down, an apology would be a start instead of the nonsense bravado we have had to put up with from the union over the last year. “Win the ballot win the dispute” what a crock of s**t.

But who genuinely believed that slogan? Win the ballot win the dispute was just a joke. Just like ‘solidarity’, ‘brothers on arms’, and the other rhetoric used which you normally find in old WWII propaganda leaflets.

The unions big problem now is to try and sell a deal to its members which the members know is a sell out.

As a PE member you have the right to get rid of us at the ballot box later this year.

But if you are going to judge us then you have to tell me what you would do differently?

1. Talks have been extended to the 24th March. There cannot be a resolution to the dispute unless there is an acceptable agreement.

2. The talks are very difficult, made harder by the worsening financial position of the company which threatens it future.

3. Royal Mail need two things , one a deal and one a deal which shows banks and creditors it has a viable future.

4. The unions role is reduce the cost associated by Royal Mail’s change program as every change initiative has a price tag to it. In addition we want a better pay deal and backdated pay. Remember every 1% backdated to April is worth 40 million. Royal Mail are estimated to be announcing a loss of 500 million before VR costs so the back pay will be on top of that.

5. We fully realise that members and reps are under sustained pressure from unachievable workload and we know the USO is being run down.

6. This Postal Executive have announced more strike action then any Postal Executive since 1971. Do you really think that if we thought simply announcing strike action would move us into a better position, we would not have done it before now. That is after all the popular call.

7. Those who have said the Government would step in , are forgetting that whilst the USO is covered by the postal services act , less than 10% of workload is actually titled as part of the USO and there is competition laws which forbid a government favouring one company against others.

8. We are after a good deal in very difficult circumstances. We will either achieve that within the next few days or we will be looking at action but we be going into that with our eyes wide open.

9. It is easy for people who are writing on sites like this to be critical but those who have all the facts have to weigh up the options and at the moment to allow those talks to go on whilst trying to ease tensions is the right option.

10. As someone who has been involved in the joint statement as a reference point on deliveries every Division has reported that there are real issues in the field with targets , DPR’s and USO failures but there has been a pause on revisions being imposed. It is an imperfect fragile peace but walking away from the joint statement won’t improve it anymore.

So it is your right to criticise but everyone on the PE wants to win this dispute and protect jobs , terms snd conditions and improve pay. These are the most difficult set of negotiations I have been involved in my 39 years in the job and where the stakes are higher than ever in every sense if the way. Believe me if over the next few days we don’t get over the line on an acceptable agreement then everyone will have the opportunity to be on the gate.
you say about easing tensions in offices due to unmanageable workloads so what plan has been put in place to stop them railroading these changes in ? , as there has been 2 statements from the CWU and royal fail telling managers to STOP but yet they still continue taking duties out , so whats being done about that ? , and in the mean time there sat in the room talking  , why didnt they just walk out and stop talks until all these revisions where stopped and offices left as they was , it just shows what the company thinks about any agreements .

Whichever deal gets put forward will be voted in. The 5.5% with changes we would have got anyway as most have been implemented.

The strikes got us the extra 4% which Rm should have given us under the pathway agreement as FT should be on 35 hours now and pt had a wage increase. Regardless we have to support the union, just hope they can save the mtsf from being reduced.
