Sick leave interview

Hi guys,
A week ago I went on 2 weeks off sick leave due to an injury and today my manager called me saying he wanted me to come to the office to talk.
Is it normal? I've never had such a conversation and I don't know what to expect, I thought that if I have a sick leave, we'll talk when I get back to work.

Basically if you can make it into the office for an interview they'll say you're fit for light duties at least. also be prepared for them to try and make the accident your fault on return

What possibly can't be said over the phone, that requires to be said in person.

Ask the reason & justification why?
Also ask to provide evidence of any policies that specifically state what he is actually asking you to do.

If he's comes out with the mantra 'it's a reasonable request' state that you reasonably disagree under the circumstances.

You could always say that you don't feel fit enough to attend an in person interview/talk.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think there's a requirement for some personal communication from the get go. It doesn't include a face to face meeting until you're absent for 21 days. If you don't have capacity to attend, then you can't come in. Not sure why they cant teams or face time you instead ( at a pre arranged time obviously).
It's all meant to be a sensible 2 way conversation. I'd say weekly phone contact reasonable unless you're expecting to be better in days , when it could be every other day or so. When I was sick for a few weeks, if managers didn't pick up my weekly contact call , I'd just send a text or leave a voicemail. Coming back too soon is never good. Be careful what you get pulled into. Reduced delivery duties of some sort ??? They like to give you a day or a week max to recover, all the promised "support" quickly disappearing. They do not hide their frustration when you’re struggling, despite what it's taking out of you and it all makes you feel like a piece of s**t. Or they'll give you a generous 6 week rehab after you're bust up pretty bad, by which time if you're not match fit , then by god, you're a right royal mail leech and they wish you'd drop dead.

On the other hand, why come across as difficult and defensive? If you are off with a legitimate reason just go in and have the conversation. You must have a doctors note to back anything you say up, if you have been off over a week, so what's the problem with going in to discuss your situation?? You have been into the doctor to discuss it to get a note. My advice, don't get stressed about it be open and honest about what you can and can't do. Maybe ask to be refered to occ health. Good luck and don't worry.

Following the process is not being difficult either. You are polite at all times with management. I am never evasive in these situations.

EXACTLY, the postie is sick. He shouldn't be anywhere near an office. A phone call is perfectly acceptable. In fact he could harm himself further by going to the office, depending on the exact cause of his absence and as Doms are not doctors, they can't even manage mail, do not go to your place of work when on sick leave.

Contact is the main thing let them know your condition most will be ok with that demanding that you return to work is unacceptable if they do stop your pay get a good solicitor and take them to court or you may get legal advice from the CWU if your in it!

Not being a manager wouldnt stop you wondering why people think you are - youve posted a few times about people calling you a manager before on here

My case? I'm not the slightest bit bothered if by talking sense sometimes people think I'm a manager (although that doesn't tally up) lol. People can think what they want, lifes too short mate for tittle tattle.
