Update on Talks - Monday 13th March

Even then, laziness and misconduct are exempt from that procedure as stated in that document contrary to what you previously stated


Have now asked repeatedly where that document has been agreed and what national agreement, and even if it exists anymore.

They can dismiss you on capability and use traffic volumes as justification.

I'd need to see the working on that one.
Under the present procedure and the legal framework surrounding disability discrimination the NCI process is completely impotent.

In all the years I've been in this business and all the cases I've been involved with I've never seen or even heard rumour of anyone being dismissed purely on capability grounds.

I'm not even sure what you mean by using traffic volumes as justification, that makes even less sense.

They get the traffic figures from the mail centre on the amount of trailers arriving for processing each day. Then you have the machines, including the PSM, that count the items. It is then easy to put processing hours on each day required with the expected traffic that arrives in the delivery office. Individual duties are irrelevant, as that is inward sorting time allowed. The outdoor delivery span remains the same with call points.

How come they're getting the revised deliveries so wrong?

its the usual , you put s**t in you get s**t out , un workable figures ie d2ds , call rates , parcel knocks , knock on neighbours , scanning , taking photos , new builds ,collections , non of this data was put into revisions , all it is they are told we want x amount of hours out the orrifice so the managers have to make it work , so theres the problem and its there problem not ours ,

At our office we have been checking the counts coming from the mail centre and their figures are way lower than the actual items. Packets in yorks are nearly double what they have quoted.
Been happening for years and you wonder why we are classed as inefficient.

Each mail stream has an "average container fill (ACF)" for whatever type of container is associated with it. The outgoing traffic is the ACF x the number on containers. We stopped doing part fills ages ago. Think you'll find that many of the packets, at least the small ones are technically large letters.

AFAIK the ACF levels are set nationally, I believe that "Traffic Staff" count the contents of random containers and feed them counts to some central office somewhere

OK. So the talks were extended from the original deadline and "into this week". Well we are now at the end of the week. Surely we either have an agreement to put to members or else announce strike dates if RM remain unwilling to agree to our demands.

The update will be that they’re having an extension to the extended talks and are going to have an extension built at acas for the extended talks in the extension.
