Vacant duties 'Signing for' Process?

What's the process/procedure?

A few posties have quit and the duties have been advertised on the staff board. I know its seniority as to who gets first dibs.

Do you apply in writing to the Manager and also if you want to go for say 2 of the advertised duties do you state 1 and 2 on the same letter.

Apologies if that don't make sense, never signed for a duty in this way before, only ever through a full office repick where the Union guy comes round with a clipboard and asks you!

In our office the rep had a list of vacant duties, we informed the rep verbally of the ones we were interested in then they were done on seniority. So I put my name down a for a couple and managed get 1.

OK thanks, so you go see the Rep not Manager or put it in writing?

Put in writing to manager. The Rep has nothing to do with vacant post; just goes to show how different offices are and how they are run...

In writing: it can be as formal as you like or just simple statements relating to the walk and your interest...

It will still be on seniority but you will be surprised how many people do not apply for certain jobs and junior staff gets them; then they start moaning afterwards, especially when their own job disappears or have more added to it

Just write on a piece of paper something similar to below.

I wish to apply for the following duties in order of preference

1- number 6 duty

2- number 23 duty

3- number 14 duty

Print name, sign and date it and hand it to the manager dealing with it.

I understand that IF the revision triggers a full office re-sign but that depends on the % of change in the office.

In ours we were told by manager to speak to the rep.

All the vacants were separated by what hours they were (part time/full time)

Any that marry up by what hours you do, apply for in writing. In our office forms were made up.
