Sat here in van (Lunch break!! Spinning circle of doom getting bigger) listening to the old fangle dangled wireless
and Jezza Vine was BBC R2 speaking about the increase in dog bites. Postie interviewed about losing
fingertip. An expert came on speaking about the characteristics of a particular set of dog owners which
many posties will be familiar with!!

Came on about 1220 if you want to listen on iplayer or BBC sounds or however you can listen to it after live broadcast.

I try not to push my fingers into the letterboxes too far in- the worst dogs are the quiet ones that are waiting for you to post something. I’m also happy for any of the snarling f***ers to take the mail when it’s pushed through, you can sometimes hear them ripping it up.

It is about time RM took seriously it duty of care obligation and informed every dog owner of the figures regarding dog attacks on postal workers. Also inform dog owners that postal workers will not deliver to properties that have dogs loose and a suitable letterbox/ container must be available for deliveries away from any areas where a dog may approach the delivery point.

Sometimes those letterboxes are like feeding the mail into a shredder.

Why would they do that? "Don't worry Postie, it won't touch you" will suffice.

They did one last year in our region.

Remember being told off by an owner to close the gate behind me as I went to deliver his mail. To stop his three dogs escaping! Needless to say he didn't get any more mail unless he came to the gate (unlikely) or fitted a box to the fence. A box went up!
When they say "Don't worry it won't bite you!" They are hardly likely to say "It will bite you!"

I do that with owners that leave their front door open (and the dog will inevitably run out when it hears me entering the garden) or have been proven to not bother to control their dogs.

I will wait at the gate for them to come get their mail while their dog has run to the closed gate standing there barking or growling and over the 150dB of the out of control dog they will complain about how "useless" I am for not entering a confined space with their barking growling dog.

If they don't show up I No Access their mail.

I have been bitten three times (all in my first year a long time ago) and it's not worth trying to be nice with those people.

The worst offenders would never see it, as their rabid dog would already have shredded the D2D to bits!
