Re: Stamps going up in April.
If I told my old nan years ago, that one day we would be paying £1.10 for a single stamp, she'd have looked at me as though I were bananas.

Well to be honest this is one way to be USO compliant, price everyone out from using it

Re: Stamps going up in April.
Three days not two if the Courier is to be believed ;
"La Poste recently announced that customers can now only buy a green stamp that guarantees delivery within three working days".
So that's nearly equivalent to our Second Class so the cost should be about 75p from next month, Royal Mail therefore losing 35p on all the First Class stamps they currently sell so surely making the service even less viable and the U S O under even greater threat.
And for very likely next working day delivery it would be £6.85 special Delivery instead of £1.10 First Class.
Be careful what you wish for.

Consumers will not stand for 3-5 days on first class (which I have experienced myself) at 1.10 a pop.

I agree .... one way of guaranteeing that mail volumes will continue to DROP is you make it expensive.
IMO it's a deliberate strategy to help meet RM's aim of turning us into a parcel delivery company they don't want letters!

Re: Stamps going up in April.
With inflation, £1.10 isn't actually worth that much any more. When you think about it what can you actually buy now for £1.10?? A single bag of crisps, a chocolate bar?

Re: Stamps going up in April.
Fifty years ago a First Class stamp cost 3p.
Inflation means that that should now be 30p, though mechanised sorting suggests it could be less.
I've see or heard no justification whatsoever for anything approaching £1 or more.

When 1st / 2nd was introduced in 1968 , 33% of the items were 1st Class
That % is now about 10% , with the proposed price increases this % will no doubt be less
It will soon become uneconomic to Segregate 1st / 2nd Class items
