Jacking it in?

i left after 32 years.

I don't see the union being able to win this one they've been constantly outboxed by rm , around christmas i managed to get a job offer a mile from home , every other sat off and very flexible holidays .

The whole issue of doing stuff on sat's is gone now i just swop shifts with my colleague , don't even book it as leave.

Still miss the banter at rm though .

This was another contributing factor in my decision to leave. Some days were killing my knees and back and getting tendinitis at the top of my right thigh from climbing in and out of vauxhall combis.

I'm in my 50s and for a while now I've been looking at the 60 year plusses in our DO and thinking I don't want to end up like them, shuffling arthritically into the retirement knackers yard.

I envisage a retirement of cycling and walking along the beach with my wife and grandkids...not rubbing linament into my joints just to free myself up just to limp along to the corner shop for some milk.

After reading all these post's tell me again how Simon Thompson and the board are not destroying Royal Mail .When enough of our good people have gone Royal Mail have had it .

I believe they want RM to go into Administration so the rules can be rewritten

Yeah I'm definitely same boat as you guys. Especially the exhaustion after work. I finding myself now without any energy at all to do anything outside of work now. Not sure if it's depression or just that doing a lot more outdoor work due to the revision basically plonking another two bags on top of my round now cuz apparently a computer said yeah you can do it. Then, you get early sorters coming in for nothing and making it seem like it's doable.

61, 30 years service. Why am I angry typing this? Angry at work, angry at home, tired to the point I do nothing after work, Saturday home by 4pm if I'm lucky. Being told I need to come off my duty for 'operational needs' to go on a 12 mile town round by a manager who couldn't cross the road without a rest. The relentless shite is depressing now, not giving a f**k helps but i do. I'm the only person in my street who works Saturdays! Driving home on a Friday and passing caravans, motorhomes, motorcycles going places, people with a work life balance...and they want us to work later. The very thought that all the times I've dragged myself out of bed with flu, bad backs etc just to stuff bonuses into people who didn't earn it, more fool me!
The unfairness of it all.
Sorry for the rambling rant but I had to get it off my chest, I really need to get out somehow!

Well, leaving is the best thing I did by a country mile, after over 25 years. I genuinely haven't felt as good. No more aches and pains, no more weekends, no more bitching and back stabbing, etc. A family life where we say in the week " we will do this/that on Saturday - and we do"!

I agree that it is what the board are trying to achieve, to get as many old timers as possible to leave, but I tell you - they are actually doing people like me a favour - getting out before the later starts/7 day rotas/1 in 6 off/constant pressure/risking losing your job over the slightest thing etc etc...

One thing is absolutely guaranteed - things will only get worse, no matter what Dinosaur Dave puffs his chest out and says. I have said it before, ANY agreement that is reached with the current talks will only last until the next round of pay talks.....and what the company doesn't bring in now will be back to haunt everyone next time, and so it all starts again.

Well you must have received your pension by now. Nothing stopping you leaving for another job. Apparently the government are desperate for 60 year olds to return to the workforce. It may seem scary and posties start saying they won't leave because that's what the company want. I'm not sure about this argument. I don't think they could care less. There are plenty of unfilled vacancies at our office. Replacing older knowledgeable staff is not easy.

Last day completed after 21 yes unblemished service , did not even get a thank you or good luck from the management, so very glad to be starting afresh on Monday and never having to set foot in that s**t show again

Well done for taking stock of the situation and acting on it. It's only when you have been at the job 20+ yrs and in your 50's you realise you'd better do something. You only get one life. Those combis are a nightmare. Are you sure it's not onset of arthritis in the hip joint and not tendinitis? Good luck with your future and your retirement when it comes.

I'll say well done and thank you on behalf of all your customers you served because as you said, no manager will. Those days are long gone where anyone with your service would be given a round of applause around the office. Don't give a monkey's now. So well done to you, you don't have to be valued by your managers, they're not the ones you were serving.
