In our office we have to amputate the recipient's finger for fingerprint analysis.

Planners said trials show it causes no extra pain or discomfort to the victim, so it's all good.

That's just proof you stood in front of an open door, not that you handed the parcel over to the customer? What you are gaining by not obtaining a signature, just saving time which RM clearly don't want you to save.

If you're say a pic is not proof then neither is a 'signature'. If you're a reserve on a route you've never done before
do you ask for proof of ID of who they say they are? Does the scribble they put on the PDA actually look like
their signature?

When presenting a SD I've said 'I've got a Special for J Jones is that you?' They say yes and I've later
found out that they've interpreted '...is that you?' as 'Is that this address?' and they are not actually J Jones ie
the individual addressed on the SD, they're a cousin twelve times removed or other random person in the property,
but I've put J Jones as the signatory, so the whole process is full of holes!

If somebody is answering the door and then giving a false signature etc for a parcel then surely that's somewhat different than a postie not even bothering to ask for one? It's a pain getting one but if a customer submits a DOR and you haven't got one I doubt you've got any defence if a COM wants to conduct you or worse, why risk your job just to save the company a few minutes each day as you can't leave work early now SISO is in place.

No. We deliver to the address and not the person (unless that product actually exists. It was talked about but I have never seen one)
Proof of ID is required in a CSP.

Absolutely. People cutting corners is the reason we have rounds reaching unachievable levels. Why people just can’t perform the tasks they are instructed to do is beyond me. We’ve had people conduct coded for signing for recorded parcels, let alone being stupid enough to sign for SDs. I have no sympathy for anyone risking their job for this.

Think it's only going to be a matter of time before RM crackdown on the excessive use of DWS. My guess is that they're getting way too many complaints from the larger customers about not getting a signature

This obsession that RM have with gaining signatures is odd. I thought that their main aim is to be like Evri, DPD, Amazon etc. Well none of these companies gain a signature from a customer and in fact they just take a photo of an item sitting on the path in the rain. Can't believe that if a customer sends by RM they insist on a signature and a photo yet if they use another courier they couldn't give two sh***s if it's even at the right house let alone sitting out in the rain for six hours. If we should have learnt one thing from COVID it's that handing a device between 100 odd people in a relatively short time frame with no way of cleaning it is not a particularly good idea. You hear people flushing the bog, people preparing food like raw meat, parents changing babies nappies, carers doing goodness knows what wearing disposable gloves all answering the door to you and handling the PDA. It's really something that needs done away with.
