Re: Later starts with school run
So if the lorries from the mail centres are setting off later, won’t they start to be impacted by morning rush hour(s)? Driving early doors means you miss all that.Acca Dacca wrote: ↑01 Mar 2023, 02:12Maybe im missing something but surely if the reason given for the later starts is that the mail and parcels from the mail centre are going to arrive at the DO later ( with more stuff that was sent our later the previous evening ) then there is nothing for those who cant start later to do even if allowed to start at current time
Its not like they can start tying up their frame an hour before others have started if the mail isnt there to be sorted, or already been sorted
And if the mail is there, surely everyone would want to start earlier since the work is there to be done and so there'd be no reason for the later start in the first place

Re: Later starts with school run
The dispatches from MCs to DOs are getting later because the work is arriving at the inward MCs later. At one point there was talk of a load of Skynet flights being axed with the work being sent by train or lorry, which would have had an even bigger impact on arrival times into MCs and the knock-on affect of arrival times into DOsBarnacle wrote: ↑01 Mar 2023, 08:34So if the lorries from the mail centres are setting off later, won’t they start to be impacted by morning rush hour(s)? Why is it arriving at the inward MCs later? Are collections happening later?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑01 Mar 2023, 09:54The dispatches from MCs to DOs are getting later because the work is arriving at the inward MCs later. The RDCs used to send multiple part filled lorries spaced through the night, now they wait until a lorry is full or there's no more work to send to a MC before the lorry leaves the RDC for the MCBarnacle wrote: ↑01 Mar 2023, 10:11Why is it arriving at the inward MCs later? Re: Later starts with school run
So all of this massive upheaval to shift patterns, causing later delivery times, is not because of some influx of other mail, it’s the SAME MAIL, it’s just leaving the MCs later??SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑01 Mar 2023, 10:55The RDCs used to send multiple part filled lorries spaced through the night, now they wait until a lorry is full or there's no more work to send to a MC before the lorry leaves the RDC for the MCBarnacle wrote: ↑01 Mar 2023, 10:11Why is it arriving at the inward MCs later? What on earth is Thompson banging on about then, when he waffles about taking advantage of later sent items and making them available to be delivered the next day because we’ll be finishing later?
If additional collections aren’t happening overnight then he’s talking about mail we won’t receive until the next day anyway? Is he only talking about London?
Makes the changes make even less sense.

My guess is that they want the LAT stuff to go out to normal DOs on the final dispatches.Barnacle wrote: ↑01 Mar 2023, 11:18What on earth is Thompson banging on about then, when he waffles about taking advantage of later sent items and making them available to be delivered the next day because we’ll be finishing later?

With the large from walks reading through the threads there doesn't seem to be any pattern as to which DOs are getting the large/oversize taken from the walks and which are getting the large/oversize dumped back on the walks

In the DO's I working there are PT rounds that finish at least an hour before the FT duties. Though yes many PT's, like myself, finish and start at the same time as FT's, there are options.Acca Dacca wrote: ↑01 Mar 2023, 07:44Most offices part timers finish at same time as full timers - they just start later

Now you're talking sense, that's going to have to stop, we've had older postie's asking if they can drop to part time and do a shorter delivery, obviously this was out of the question due to it requiring a marginal amount of work by management to make it a possibility.Foxel wrote: ↑01 Mar 2023, 13:53In the DO's I working there are PT rounds that finish at least an hour before the FT duties. Re: Later starts with school run
Legally if RM go ahead with the "if you don't like it leave" approach they are leaving themselves wide open for an avalanche of constructive and unfair dismissal cases regarding childcare, carers, discrimination. We might well see half an hour adjustments in certain areas but exactly like when the govt tried the "if you don't get jabbed you will be sacked" approach with certain sectors of work, legally it's not that easy

Re: Later starts with school run
It's going to be down to arrival times at the Inward MC. If they get made later, night shifts in inward MCs and DO staff will all see their start and finish times made later by however much later the mail arrives at the Inward MC

As far as I'm aware there's nothing within our contracts with a built in start and finish time and we are basically on call given sufficient notice provided the contracted hours are met per week.
Pretty sure RM can point to "as business requires" to force through any change in hours such as this.

However, changing hours so that, for example, a worker can no longer start or finish at the required times due to child school pick up/drop off times, is effectively constructive dismissal.Postie45 wrote: ↑11 Mar 2023, 18:28As far as I'm aware there's nothing within our contracts with a built in start and finish time and we are basically on call given sufficient notice provided the contracted hours are met per week.

They can’t encourage people to work for RM because of ‘family friendly’ hours, and then remove those family friendly hours.

Re: Later starts with school run
There's a Network Review in the Autumn which could potentially force later starts. I've not heard/read any info on it so have no idea what affect it's going to have on arrival times into our MC (which has a knock-on affect on our start and finish times, the start and finish times in the DOs and the dispatch times for both waves (we don't have a wave 3 anymore)Barnacle wrote: ↑11 Mar 2023, 18:38However, changing hours so that, for example, a worker can no longer start or finish at the required times due to child school pick up/drop off times, is effectively constructive dismissal.Postie45 wrote: ↑11 Mar 2023, 18:28As far as I'm aware there's nothing within our contracts with a built in start and finish time and we are basically on call given sufficient notice provided the contracted hours are met per week.
