I don't really want to cause any more grief for Posties but it does amaze how many accidents some people have in RM vans with no apparent come back. Our fleet is in a sorry state as well...... strange that no one seems to smash up the old battered vans (or perhaps we don't notice it) they seem to wait until we get a nice new shiny van and then within a short time someone's damaged it!

Felt really sorry for one of our Posties. They're really a bit anal about their van and they'd just got a new one. Month or so later after cleaning it & polishing it, inside and out, they went on leave. When they got back two separate Leave Reserves had each bashed it! They were not a happy teddy!

I tried this, I liked to keep my van (Doblo XL on a 62 plate) clean in and out, washing it twice a week and keeping the cab tidy. I am the only one to use it but when it goes to the garage it goes back to our main SPDO and then out on collections or is a spare until it gets returned to me a few days later

This has happened a few times and every time somebody has dinged it, scratched it or scraped it down something. Somebody has even managed to dent the roof in the middle of it and twist the drivers and rear load door our of line, how does this even happen???

I go off on leave, I come back to the van covered in mud (farm tracks), empty drink bottles and crisp packets all over the cab, elastic bands everywhere

I've actually given up hope now. The van has 4000 miles on it but it looks like a 200,000k battle bus covered in dings, scratches, cracked mirror, broken hub caps and bent doors

It's a pity that they can't "Postie Proof" our vans. Once they've purchased them they could be moded with extras like large Metal Bumpers and extra protection down each side, like Bumper cars! Perhaps we could get a cheaper deal on a basic Matt Red Paint scheme that could be touched up by hand with a pot of red paint.....They could'nt look any worse than they do now.

I know the feeling.

A few years back when I drove I got given a brand new Combo. Even smelled new in side. Once a week when I was on OT I would take it home for a break to wash and hoover it out. Even used those clean wipes on the dashboard and everything. Collection drivers would always want my van as it was so clean and in return leave chip papers in the footwells and explode cans of coke over the dashboard.

I kept on cleaning it though and admit to being just a little proud of it in the yard. Then it went in for its first year service. By mistake it got sent to another office and it took a month to come back. When it returned it was in a sorry state with dents and scrapes all around. The floor mats had been swapped for a knacked pair. What pissed me off though was the fact that every face vent had been deliberately broken so you could not adjust or turn them off. Why do it

After that I gave up on it.

Someone in our place broke the window winders off every week turns out he was a spastic still "works" for RM though as a senior manager still snapping things though!

Same in our office you get taken off driving to retake the changeover even if it’s not your fault. It got so bad a few years ago that the drivers were threatening to come off driving. The point was why should we drive if you don’t get payed extra and you could have to pay fines and collect penalties etc…

If there is an insurance claim going through, and you have your own personal car insurance policy, don't forget you are legally obliged to tell them or you may find your insurance invalid. It may or may not put the price of your insurance up but in the event of you having to claim on your insurance you will be glad that you told them.

Yes ive said this before. Us drivers are taking risks we are not financially compensated for. As I pointed out above, just a small accident even if not you fault, can compromise your own personal car insurance.
