I'm not surprised the turnout wasn't as high, some addresses I deliver to received at least 3 leaflets asking to vote yes before I'd even seen a ballot paper for them
I thought Dave said it was a record turnout? Ironically more people voted no than last time!

It was higher than the nurses and teachers, both were not that much over 50%.
It was higher than RMT at just over 70%.
It was even higher than our first ballot which was 72%

In realistic terms a 77% turnout is unprecedented, it's pretty much unheard of with such a large and geographically diverse membership and to throw a 95.9% Yes vote on top of that is something the trade union movement has never seen before and is unlikely to see again.

This forum appears to be narrowing its user base down to an echo chamber of the same negative s**t every day.

It's a damn shame, it used to be the go to place for advice and support. It also used to be funny.

Personal attacks, and ones that quoted them have been deleted.

Please play the ball, not the man. It keeps dragging the site down and is making us a laughingstock.

I have supported every strike since I started at RM but I'd much rather have a strike breaker post on here as long as they do it with respect and within the rules, than some of the stalwarts of the strikes who think because they support the strike they can say anything they want.

Please follow the rules, if you can't don't post.

Hope you lot are front of the queue when they announce 20,000 job losses with no redundancy pay and no moaning about it.

Its only a hypothetical question that we all hope will never happen, but if Royal Mail had no other alternative but compulsory redundancies, I wonder how they would go about who goes? In most companies its often a case of last in, first out. So I'm guessing if you've only had a few years in then you would be shown the door first.

Think ive seen somewhere on here what the criteria is.
From memory its absence and conduct, complaints and how useful (walks ans areas of job known) by individual. Hopefully theres no strikes everyone is sensible and it doesnt come to it.

Why would all those people not vote, one way or the other?
I will give my answer to this as I am one of those who did not vote.
I’m not in agreement with the way that RM have conducted themselves but the ballot paper asked if I’m willing to strike. I am not willing to strike so couldn’t vote yes. A no vote would indicate that I agree with the RM’s strategy.
I was hoping for a wider range of IA.
By voting for the strike you actually make it more unlikely than not voting. Royal Mail now think they have 25% support (just read what some of the managers are saying on Workplace). If we had a 90%+ turnout with 97% yes, Royal Mail and the board would have s**t itself.
The stronger we are(look?) the less likely it will end up in industrial action.

No industrial action ballot has ever had anything like a 90% turnout.
Are some of you guys on drugs?

Royal Mail didn't expect a 77% turnout.
I didn't expect a 77% turnout.
Even Dave didn't expect a 77% turnout.

That's f***ing huge in any industrial action ballot, nevermind second time around.

EDIT - apologies, I understand you mean that RM would have reached an agreement quicker meaning less likely it ends up in more strikes

If you've worked for the employer for less than 2 years your employer doesn't have to show that they have chosen you reasonably. That is why a lot of companies often operate a last in, first out and if the company are seriously losing money then that is often what happens first.

But I agree with you, hopefully the business realises that its not their way or the highway and we won't need to strike. I believe the way forward for Royal Mail is for them to focus on just ONE and possibly TWO changes that is what they want to see happen, rather than several of them, to agree with the Union and move on.

Just throwing more proposals into the mix and going straight to media saying things like the possibility of making 10,000 compulsory redundancies whilst then bleeding money dry with agency staff and managers bonuses makes any sort of agreement complicated, impossible to conclude and just p*sses off your hardworking and loyal staff. That has been Royal Mails biggest mistake imho

3517 strike breakers

Great result though.
Not as many as Royal Mail was leading us to believe, this blatant attack and lies from Thompson shows he is not that honest and lacks the integrity to run a company like Royal Mail ,with him in charge if i was a customer i would be worried about using Royal Mail as a carrier of important mail and parcels, the board need to act now and dismiss him before he ruins the reputation once and for all .
