The red post box in Willes Road is overflowing

A ‘priority’ red post box in Leamington is overflowing having not been emptied for days.

More than four days ago, Robert Zara noticed he could see mail sticking out of the slot on the post box in Willes Road.

He has since been back to the post box and it is now overflowing.

Mr Zara said: “It seems the letters have not been collected for several days.

"I have reported this to Royal Mail twice but have had no response.

"On its website, Royal Mail identifies this box as a priority, which makes you wonder how often they empty the other ones.”

"It’s extraordinary that a postbox can remain unopened for over four days - it’s not as if there’s a strike on.”

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We’re very sorry for the problems experienced with this postbox, which will now be emptied as soon as possible.”

How can a box go unemptied? Priority box or not, how can ANY box go unemptied?? If we miss a box, actually forget that, IT NEVER HAPPENS. We would literally be shot.

I thought that too, though I would imagine if that were the case they'd seal the box and put it out of service.
The machine stops.

No, a locksmith would get it open, I'm sure RM has a few 'on retainer' or even directly employed by facilities for such issues.

The other option is that whoever was on it, took a pic of the barcode and then didn’t empty the box everyday, and was then caught out because a customer delivered a load of mailings one day, blocking the box.

They have to get to the box within 4 hours of reporting the fault.

FFS, you do know that they have SPARE keys for every box in the UK. WTF.

lmao. Yeah. And half of those spares are in my experience in active use and no one remembers to get another one cut to replace it.
