Royal Mail parcel collection points could see hours cut in review

ROYAL Mail has rejected claims its town centre parcel collection point is being axed — but hinted its hours could be cut.

A source provided the Advertiser with a letter from the Communication Workers’ Union warning of a review of what the postal giant calls “customer service points”.

People receiving a missed delivery card can currently pick their parcels up from the Royal Mail offices in Main Street, Rotherham, and Farfield Park in Manvers.

Royal Mail confirmed the sites were under review but said it was upping its game to prevent people having to travel to get their hands on their post.

A spokesperson said the company was running a review of its 1,200 “CSPs” nationally “to determine the optimum number of locations following a 50 per cent drop in footfall since the pandemic”.

They added: “Having completed the first stage of the review and considered a range of options, we have decided to maintain the current estate of Customer Service Points as we seek to further improve our first-time delivery rates.

“Following successful trials, Royal Mail will additionally roll out automatic next day redeliveries for missed parcels in the coming months.

“This is designed to make it even easier for customers to receive parcels at home, without the need to travel to a Customer Service Point.

“This builds on Royal Mail’s introduction of a range of alternative delivery options for greater convenience in recent years, including free redelivery, delivery to a neighbour, the option to leave parcels in a Safeplace and inflight redirections through the App and website.

“As footfall continues to decrease, the next stage of this review will focus on ensuring that opening hours match demand.”

People were at home locked in during the pandemic. So how could there possibility be 50% less footfall ?

Oh Royal Mail, your lies do make us laugh.

Close CSP, or cut huge amounts of hours - a large percentage, then claim less people at attending CSP’s; then use that as a reason to close them all. Hilarious. More lies.
How will “footfall” continue to decrease, now we are through the pandemic (predominantly)? The reason footfall has decreased started because they slashed hours of CSP opening times under the guise of the Pandemic.
They should have increased hours since then, not the complete opposite.
People are still ordering parcels everyday. Which leads us to their real motivation:

Royal Mail lying through their teeth as usual to cut costs, simple as that. Nothing to do with the customer as they always claim.
