Finishing on time, Tracked packets ?

Post by manfromuncle »

With the new revisions going live, I’m expecting plenty of posties to have excessive work loads and be unable to complete. Obviously there’s going to be the usual discussions with the managers as to what to leave, take out and bring back but here’s the thing, at our office the usual advice is to clear the tracked packets and bring back mail, how would it sit if we tell managers that we will finish the bags we are able then bring everything back including tracked on rest, even oversized. Remember our CEO stated in the Select Committee that we don’t prioritise packets over mail…

Back when they banned overtime, I asked what happens if you run out of time and still have Tracked. The manager walked away from me and wouldn’t answer.

They assume you will deliver the Tracked on fairy time. If everything is equal, there ought to be a recognised process for bringing back tracked because you ran out of time. Before the IA a manager allowed her division to bring back tracked and scan them via indoor > enquiry office > item not delivered > inaccessible.

I have used this method several times since and have never been pulled up about some undelivered tracked item.

Not unheard of, though I'd be careful. Without an accompanying not delivered > inaccessible scan near the address, it's going to raise some questions. Especially if it's a front & back property.

The fact that there's no way to indicate Tracked items just haven't been attempted indicates that delaying them is operationally inconceivable - in other words, they do take precedence over other mail streams.

This might explain why when LAT/agency staff take pkts out in the afternoon, they don't 739 them, they just bring them back and they go straight in to the workload of the next days shift. I know from speaking to customers in shops and businesses that were certainly open, they were never even attempted!

You can scan them delivery not attempted. Indoor- enquiry office- record not delivered- scan then select delivery not attempted.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Surely that practice is far worse than prioritisation of Tracked items. It is deceitful to the paying and receiving customer, as the delivery property is not inaccessible at all, it's a downright lie. Presumably recording them this way means they don't fail, as opposed to scanning "delivery not attempted", which would be deemed to be a failure.

To be fair, its pretty stupid that any go down as failures at all as Tracked parcels are not guaranteed like Specials are
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Any ‘deceit’ is caused by the company itself by not placing an option for non-delivery on the PDA. If they aren’t going to pay you to deliver, there has to be a valid option on the PDA.

As someone else pointed out, Tracked are not specials or guaranteed but that is exactly how we are being expected to treat them, by not having an option to not deliver.

This is the manager's issue, let them worry about it. Putting it as inaccessible puts you in the firing line. If you take tracked back and a manager moans saying all tracked should be completed first, get a witness or ask for it in writing. Let them have the argument with the area manager. They can't touch you for it.

Don’t be deceitful and refuse to input lies on the your PDA .
Let your manager do the lying they are Professional at doing it.

Bring it back including tracked. Do your duty as you normally would. Don’t get cutting off tonnes of letters to
Cover their arses delivering tracked, especially since our honourable CEO said parcels aren’t prioritised over letters to parliament. ;liar

In my original reply to the OP I stated that scanning undelivered Tracked as indoor>undelivered>inaccessible was the manager’s sanctioned solution.

Therefore, any ‘deceit’ is on their head with zero come back on me.

Just clarifying.

If the COMs have any sense they'll get their bosses to put in writing the order to order you to do Tracked first, so that their ass is covered as well

I stand corrected. Still, they keep that one quiet.

Without going into detail, I advised the sender of a Moonpig Tracked 24 that received an inaccessible scan before Christmas that they should dispute it on grounds of mismatched GPS coordinates. Because I know that's how they mask failure to attempt delivery.
