Out of interest....what does a revision in a mail centre look like? I mean in a D.O. they will carve up a duty and divide the streets out to other duties...but what happens in a mail centre. do they give you extra sorting? Extra bags to empty, extra meter bags to sort...push more yorks around? What does a revision in a Mail Centre actually involve?

It's more to do with how much of each mail stream arrives and when it arrives. In DOs you get all your work over two runs, in a MC the work can arrive on dozens of vans (collections on lates), in multiple lorries (DSA) and multiple lorries and vans (inward on nights). Some shifts the mix of PT and FT will change, some shifts might gain staff, some shifts might lose staff

In a DO we are expected to absorb everything that's thrown at us on a daily basis, and now more on top.
In an MC if that work doesn't get completed you roll it over for the next shift no?
Or do you get bullied into sorting faster?

Sometimes the work will be waiting for us next day if the next shifts don't have the hours, as they'll have their own workplans to complete first. The alternative would be to hold back wave 2 dispatches until everything is done

At some point RM will have to make an agreement to do revisions jointly with the CWU as the one we have in place must be costing them more than it did before the cocked up the office.

Our revision coming next month. Basically permanent lapsing added to the remaining walks after some have been removed!

If RM claim to need to be more streamlined and efficient why are they doing such ridiculous revisions? How is every worker in the office spending a pointless half hour a day extra travelling to and from these additions going to make offices more efficient?

Surely a proper revision with walks all located in one location is far more efficient?

I always thought the CEO was a bit thick but this takes the biscuit! I am amazed he can walk and talk without falling over!

So basically you go to work, do work, then go home regardless of whether it's all completed or not.

No ridiculous arguments, no bullying, no why can't you complete look at your fitting you've got loads of time, no the computer says your duty takes 30 minutes to prep/tie up/load in to van, no but Fred can manage it (ignore the fact he starts early never has a break and he's 30 years younger than me), no you're too slow it's a performance issue, no concentrate on the trackeds, you get the picture here.

Sorry not having a go these are all things that occur in delivery offices.

There's a lot riding on these revisions for Royal Mail.


Senior managers are pushing them on to the COMs to implement in the best way that they can but they don't quite know the best approach. They believe that lapsing more duties will force/encourage more posties to adapt to new bigger delivery routes. Then once they take the parcels off them and give them to designated packet drivers the theory is that it will allow posties to be able to walk even longer than before and to be able to take more loops.

Walks are then to be taken out of a section and added onto the existing routes. Whether this will be cost effective or not will depend on US. The company can try and force through anything via executive action but have we forgotten what is standing in the way?? Some posties just won't be bullied into taking 9 loops or delivering 100 parcels a day. Many posties are also wary that a full revision of duties would also trigger a re-pick. All those seniors on cushy rounds and posties on duties that they have not signed for take note.....

Do cushy rounds still exist? It did used to be a thing years ago but not really for about 10 years at ours

Well we must be because we have posties that are still regularly finishing before dinner and yet they are on pay till 3pm. Thought job and knock finished years ago? It doesn't bother me personally but when managers are looking to maximise deliveries where should it be proposed that they should start looking??

One of our greatest weapons is our finish time. While ever we have one, and I sincerely hope commit to deliver doesn’t come in, RM cannot beat those who still stand by their finish time.

Add on 200 calls, give me triple lapsing, hand me 50 extra parcels, ask me to work 3 from a van, tell me to prep 4 rounds, insist I don’t nest the 8 D2Ds, throw away my frame and have me bench merge instead....I do not care, my staff card is scanned out on time, regardless of what work has and hasn’t been done.
