No it hasn’t, Saturdays were always 1 delivery while the rest of the week was 2 deliveries.

And to think that customers could be paying extra for items like Recorded delivery yet they are being treated like normal letters.


The issue I have with getting rid of mail on Saturdays is that it makes Monday an even busier day with additional D2Ds on top of the usual mail from the Saturday that would need to be delivered.

And Royal Mail are planning on having bigger deliveries as well. When you have less staff available who is going to get all the deliveries covered?

I’d love to know how much it is costing RM to run Sunday deliveries. Can’t see how it is in anyway cost effective to be delivering tracked flats on a Sunday.

122miles yesterday to deliver 23 pkts. Course it's cost effective .....but what do we know?

I done 8 parcels in 4 hours covering 96miles. Not as many miles as you but mine was more miles per parcels.

Needless to say we dont deliver to those areas anymore. Even the managers eventually conceded we could "inaccessible" them if the weather conditions werent good. The risk assessment could be done in the office (bbc weather) and focus on other parcels or we could drive half way there and deem the roads dangerous and come back.

The public might accept losing Saturday letter deliveries if that 17% reduction in service was matched by a 17% reduction in prices, First Class down from 95p to 79p and second Class from 68p to 57p. But several weeks from now we'll probably see First Class increasing to £1 or a guinea.
