Compulsory/enforced overtime

Interesting brief from our manager yesterday morning.

Essentially "It's in your contracts that you are required to do overtime and we will be looking at if we need to use that clause"
The whole DO is a cock up with not enough staff may have something to do with it.

Went down like a lead balloon, my opinion is it's just more psychological warfare to add on to the already toxic atmosphere.

They are technically correct but, according to the "Grey area law" there has to be some rough details of what amount of overtime and when that may be.
My contract is too vague, to paraphrase, just "May need overtime doing as and when needed".

Difficult to enforce and rife with a thousand problems.
Rather silly to make these veiled threats when your whole DO relies on people already doing overtime.

They can ask you to flex 30 mins on a voluntary basis this would mean finishing 30 mins earlier later in the week. Whatever your contracted hours that’s what you “have” to work

They are not referring to that agreement, this is "You will work what we tell you to work" but we are probably too cowardly to try it on. So psychological warfare.

I'm not worried about this because it's just unworkable.
Just bringing it to peoples attention that maybe they will try to bullshit you as well.
BTW, funny in our Do how they left it to an "assistant manager" to "come up with this" . Smells like even our normal "chimp managers" want bugger all to do with this.

The 30min flex is only when their is a delay out of the managers control, ie when the lorry is late or breaks down, it should not be used to bully people into working over their time, but that is what I see coming down the track if the vote don’t go our way!!!

No - that flex 30 minute procedure has to be agreed and it's supposed to be for extraordinary circumstances AFAIK.

However the T&C's attached to my contract state blah, blah, blah...RM provides a public service.......blah, blah,

Because as said earlier, managers are being told to do as instructed or they are out on their ear, and bear in mind, how many RM calibre managers could go elsewhere and earn 40 odd grand?

From what i have read on other posts on here some of the managers are going out of their way to be bullying snidey bastards,not sure if they are being told to be like that or its just in their nature thinking they have a green light to behave the way they want.

You're right they're a right bunch of Lazy Chancers.

Trouble is most of them have got away with for so long with their offices basically being organised, and run, by the PHGs & Posties themselves .... and most of them with gallons of GOOD WILL & OVERTIME.

Now they're struggling because Local Reps are not enaging with their BS Revisions (which will not work) and a lot of Posties are just saying, "Fair enough I'll do what you want but I'll finish on my time and bring everything back that's NOT achievable"! NOW they've actually got to Manage their Staff & Offices and the majority of them are incapable. Hence the Default Option of Bullying & Harrassing staff into trying to make it work.

There is an argument that some Posties have been taking the pisss for years, and could in fact deliver more mail if they got their finger out! However this is a Management Problem that these Idle Bastards should have sorted years ago, so they've only got themselves to blame!
