Why the heck are we striking?
Things are coming in on executive action already at our office. 1 in 4 duties are being removed at the end of this month which puts an hour on everyone with two rows of mail added per two walks.
This will leave over 26 staff without duties as they need to remove hundreds of hours within a month. Been told by a manager that they have been told to get rid of staff (maybe temps, natural wastage etc)
Union rep not getting involved whatsover.
RM are stamping all over this already and this will clearly get worse after the next bout of strikes if these do not work.
I'm all for being hopeful and I've given a massive YES and will not go in through the next lot but things like this gives you absolutely no hope at all.
I know it's not just one office either.

Yeah we should just give in. As a matter of a fact we really should work for less and accept inferior terms and conditions. We’re lucky to have jobs really.

Re: Why the heck are we striking?
So we should stop striking because of these things? Have you an alternative idea on how we can at least slow down some of Royal Mails executive actions?postiewhite wrote: ↑08 Feb 2023, 11:13Things are coming in on executive action already at our office. 1 in 4 duties are being removed at the end of this month which puts an hour on everyone with two rows of mail added per two walks.

Do you think maybe things would be far worse by now if we had not at least gone on strike so many times last year?

Re: Why the heck are we striking?
I'm not saying we stop striking. I'm saying big changes are being forced in as we speak Is the union powerless to ask RM to stop these executive action changes until the outcome of the strikes?mjd24 wrote: ↑08 Feb 2023, 11:52So we should stop striking because of these things? Re: Why the heck are we striking?
Some unfair comments to the OP imo.
He's clearly just fed up of exec action coming in, and obviously no pushback from his rep.
He says he will continue to strike and is just voicing his state of mind.
Get off his back.

Re: Why the heck are we striking?
Ask RM to stop changes, the answer will be No. But the union needs new ideas cos 1 or 2 day strikes are not gonna work especially at the moment, maybe overtime ban would work better. I know this impacts on part timers but nobody loses a days pay

Re: Why the heck are we striking?
No push back from Rep? how do you know this is the case?
I totally get his frustration
The push back is voting Yes in the re ballot, the push back is ensuring we get an even bigger yes vote on a bigger turn out, rep's locally have their hands tied and are doing as much as they can. Am sure the rep's are doing everything they can to get the message out about how import the yes vote is.
lets give them some slack for the great job they are doing.

Your office clearly hasn't been affected yetWhat on Earth makes you think my office hasnt been affected yet?! Odd.
You think it's perfectly reasonable for these actions (which the union are fighting against) are already being pushed through.
We have lost £1500 in pay over the Xmas period and big changes are already happening and that is before our next bout of strikes
What part do you not understand?!!

When we strike again, a lot of these changes will have already happened. (Bigger walks, later starts, loads of staff not needed, my rep basically saying he is powerless etc)

Re: Why the heck are we striking?
I think that a bit rich, “things could be far worse” no, Royal Mail told us what they would do and bar the later starts they have so it cldnt have gone worse and we’re all out of pocket to boot!mjd24 wrote: ↑08 Feb 2023, 11:52So we should stop striking because of these things? Re: Why the heck are we striking?
Get your frustration but what else can we do except as you have done and returned a yes vote(same as me) think as has been stated a few times on here it looks like the union are pretty much powerless to stop executive action.only thing we can do is strike to at least have a glimmer of hope of a resolution.postiewhite wrote: ↑08 Feb 2023, 11:13Things are coming in on executive action already at our office. 1 in 4 duties are being removed at the end of this month which puts an hour on everyone with two rows of mail added per two walks.

Re: Why the heck are we striking?
Anybody that believes a big yes vote will win the dispute as the CWU keep saying is f***ing delusional. This is done. Finished. Over. Complete.
The revisions will be done before we can even strike, and that’s if Royal Mail don’t find a way to challenge the ballot result next week(I bet they do).
I voted yes but I’m realistic enough to know it was in vain.
