So my application is in for the historical shortfall. I consider myself one of the lucky ones who did not go to prison or took their own life
I was however made bankrupt by this , forced to sell my home and had a nervous breakdown and have had 16 years of being unable to work . That’s how bad this affected me. Like many, I thought it was just me and suffered severely with mental illness since
My solicitor says my claim should include loss of earnings for 15 years as well as loss of reputation and obviously the shortfalls which I had to pay. It’s actually quite a big figure of over 300k which has been put in
Considering our thriving business and beautiful home , we now live in a 50 square metre apartment, have had to live off the proceeds of our house sale so obviously this would change our life , even though we are both almost retirement age and 16 years of my life ruined .
I suppose my question is , do people get this much , the solicitor says we have all the medical records and bankruptcy details to prove everything, but does anyone actually know if these sort of figures are paid out

Re: Historical shortfall figures
Assuming this is the "Horizon Scandal" stuff right?
You solicitor should be competent if they're practising, but if you want a second legal opinion I'd check reddit, legaladviceuk is a good source to get a feel of your legal standing.

A lot aren't lawyers, and not much verification is performed, but a lot of their advice ends up with follow-ups proving they were giving good advice.
