All the OT application sheets have vanished from the notice boards, which makes me wonder if RM are about to or already have, going to bring in another national OT ban
You have already said how quiet it is so why give out ot??
Second the above!

Furthermore, one was complaining about Royal Mail using Agency staff for Sundays; why would RM want to rely on Posties that are now unreliable, just to help the same Posties boost the wages through overtime...

There was so much moaning about working on Sundays - now the volunteers are moaning about not getting Sundays

We are just hurting ourselves with these strikes - more lost wages and damage to the company - hope the Union will be happy and proud of themselves when it all gets to pot; finally!

These strikes are a publicity stunt - for the Select Committee hearing and upcoming new ballots. They want to damage Simon Thompson and RM but it will backfire!

People should be careful about taking photos of their workplace and the whole whistle blowing thing... There are rules and does and don'ts. More reps to be suspended too - because there will be more strike breakers and rancour within the ranks.

Good luck folks!

The key word bring volunteers

The union doesn’t have an issue with Sunday working and neither does the majority of the workforce in deliveries

The union and the majority of the workforce had a problem with it being mandatory rather than voluntary

The agency workers doing Sunday shifts are doing them on a voluntary basis too
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

We still have a half dozen plus agency most nights, it's better that it's posties on OT. You've also got people using up AL this time of year

We need to be so much smarter .we have lost the public they see us now as just putting through rubbish through their letterboxes. Mail is down by 50 per cent at least due to them at the top .out of interest how many of those who have not yet voted in the ballot will be swayed by this one day announcement either fir or against? Also I had to search high and low to find they are having a Web meeting st 6pm tonight [fri].Will the union then tell us the outcome of their meeting with the big shareholders etc etc

What a surprise the clueless leadership want to strike at the least busiest time of year where Royal mail will not give a stuff, and the overtime hawks will clear the office the next day. Basically wasting a days pay so Dave and his mates can look good in front of the press. Our regional union rep said the CWU leadership do not want to bring in an overtime ban/work to rule because there are posites that rely on overtime to pay the bills, I mean give me a break, if you need overtime to pay the bill then your in the wrong job and what about the majority eho do not do overtime or do not need it? We are all going to lose another days pay, the union dont seem to give a stuff about that. The leadership are clueless, why don't they ballot us on what we want to do? The overall majority would take a work to rule stance instead of this pointless strike action that Royal mail dont care about. Total incompetent leadership of Royal mail and our union they are both as bad as each other. How much of Dave's massive salary is he giving up throughout this dispute?
Exactly this. Don't know what the solution is but it certainly won't be striking for one day when there's no mail anyway.

Look what do you want the union to do. They are damned either way but they must do something or sure we just all bend over and touch our toes. As for the o/t dilemma unfortunately its not a guaranteed part of your wage, just because you are getting it now doesn't mean you will always get it and my belief is that if the Slyman gets his way you will lose that as well. I understand, having started as p/t like everybody else, that you rely on it when you are on a p/t contract but perhaps with the way forward in slymanland you will only get made up to f/t if you accept his terms for new starts. But who knows. I would be keeping a eye out for alternate work just in case, while us golden oldies all leave over the next few years and the job dies its final death into some awful evri/amazon feck knows what else hybrid that only a 20yr old athlete/mma fighter can cope with.

I think it was this or do nothing (in response to the executive action without using the Industrial Framework as ST had agreed to not even that long ago), and doing nothing would have looked much worse.

Hopefully when it comes to the post-ballot strikes they will have a better strategy, e.g a week out at a time with four or five weeks rest.

I agree that we should be careful taking photos of the workplace especially with reps being suspended etc etc. But I don't disagree with the strikes. I know most people will say that its another day lost in wages - but what else can we do when faced with an employer that is hellbent on forcing through changes that will make everyone worse off in the long run?
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Looking at your post history, you have a personal vendetta against the union leadership and specifically Dave Ward.
Vendetta you say, I have seen this useless cwu leadership screw the members including me for years, every deal they make has made our job worse. If Dave Ward cared so much about commradship he would not be getting paid 130000+ pounds a year, a disgrace he is getting paid more than 5 times the average postal workers salary and what does he do for this massive salary? Oh yes he puts out some tweets and does a few live streams, telling us to stick together with the strikes because now that Royal Mail didnt give a stuff about them at the busiest time of year they will cave in with our strikes when the mail is at its lowest. He is either incompetent or he just does not care about posties, if he did care he would not be on a obscene salary, while we have sacraficed 1000+ pounds in these strikes Dave has been picking up his massive salary funded by us, solidarity my a**se.

As for the overtime hawks complaining they need the overtime, well great I need my basic pay to pay the bills, becasuse I plan my finances on the money I know is coming in not some extra money that comes in when RM want me to do extra. So everytime we strike I struggle to pay my bills, while you overtime hawks just mop up the mail left over from the strike and you still get the equivalent of basic pay or more. That seem fair? According to the union that is really fair, protect the overtime hawks who are helping RM tlessen the effect of the strikes and let the posties who are principled and actually wont do overtime through the dispute suffer by losing pay on strike days. Makes you wonder what the point of the union is for; completely useless.

Referring to RM deciding to use agency workers on a Sunday from this coming Sunday: does anyone know if that decision was made AFTER the strike day had been announced?

That’s what it seems like because they even told people who’d been doing Sundays for a couple of years to not bother because they are now using agency. Pretty disgraceful.

Well done for saying what a lot of posties will be thinking. Not that you'll get much support on here. I totally agree though
