Has anybody had there meal break times changed ?

We now do 20 mins before we go out and have to sit in the office tea room for 20mins at the end of the day. We used to be able to go 20 mins early. It seems like such a waste of time. And our manager keeps joining us in the tea room during our breaks !!!

Isn’t it because the signing out pda doesn’t acknowledge that you are signing out 20 mins early because of your break? It just notes that you signed out 20 mins early.

Not happened to us yet, we are still having 20 mins before we go out then we can leave 20 min before end of our duty time! think if they tried this with us I would just inform them that from now on I would be taking the full 40 mins before I leave to go out on delivery, then returning off delivery 10 mins before end of duty ( 10 mins pouching off time)

I will be taking my full meal break outside of the office at a time I feel hungry or need a rest how can they say take half in the office when you have only been in work about 2 hours and probably just had ya breakfast at home before coming to work

Hows that work if you are FT working with PT who comes in just as you are taking your first break? What happens if they want their break halfway through their day as they are entitled to?

You both finish at the same time don’t you? They can take their break in the middle as usual.
The SISO doesn’t care about your breaks until that last break where people have been finishing 20 mins ‘early’ by using their break at the end. You can’t do that now because they are logging that as you finishing early.

Having the second 20 minute at the end in our office. I found ever since they stopped the second delivery years ago any breaks you have never really benefit you. Having a full break after the first delivery and them a short second delivery just seemed so much better. And actually getting home for lunch time! Rather than lunch almost turning into supper! The good old days…

If your manager talks about work he/she is interrupting a break. Therefore your break should reset. You get a break from work

When I was a reserve/floater, I never took my break because it just wasn’t done when there was so much to put in etc. plus they could switch you to an entirely different walk after you have spent time prepping the one you thought you were on

But it was okay to claim that break as part of any overtime at the end. We can’t do that anymore not only because of SISO but also because writing any XS on a sheet doesn’t happen anymore. Any overtime or XS has to be agreed at the beginning of the day. They’re keeping a tight rein on any over minutes.

Where the work for the new parcel jobs is going to come from is anyone’s guess.

I believe at least since P&L was introduced, that management can direct you take your statutory break before departure. Break lengths vary with attendance, but the typical PT break is 30 minutes of which 20 is the legal minimum and the remaining 10 is at your discretion. Obviously the reasonable instruction rule applies - they can't make you take your break having just walked in the door.

At the start of the year our management decreed all staff must take 20 minutes of their break before departure (amongst many other points). Of course, a few weeks on from the declaration there's absolutely no enforcement and FT and PT staff are scanning out early without taking any break.

Sounds like some offices are going to lose even more hours, when the higher ups add up all them 20mins across the office, as they'll just see it as people finishing 20mins early
