Taking walks out as well as shoebox (and over parcels)

Before I start I apologize if this is already a topic but if there is I can't seem to find it.

Well,there is talk amongst the staff that we are planning on taking walks out of the office, maybe 4 walks in each section which is probably around a 1/4 or 1/5 of the office duties and adding them onto the remaining walks which could equal to maybe best part of a walk to each section, in return they will take parcels (shoebox and and over) from everyone which could equal to 30 parcels.

Is this an office specific thing, national with executive action or is this the plan if the CWU lose the debate? I'm not sure if this specific subject has been mentioned by Dave Ward, I do know he is fighting against later starts and finishes but not actually making walks upto 2hrs longer?
Has anyone had this done or have this planned too?

I noticed today that in some divisions in our office, frames had been removed entirely.

Is it not starting to look like they plan to make walks bigger and cut a lot of staff?

Our walk takes us 5 hours and just had another walk added to make a total delivery time of 7 hours 30 minutes , what with the 3 hours 40 prep and 40 minutes meal break that’s a total of 11 hours 50 minutes. Should be fun.

That’s ridiculous. I think they’ve been taking moron pills. Nothing makes any sense anymore.

Prep time should disappear soon as the mail will come pre sorted, flats and all in the correct order. Lift your tray(s) and off you toddle.

At least that's the plan RM expect to have in place soon. God knows how the crappy small eBay packets from china and Amazon A5 envelopes etc. will work their way into that. No frames, no desks needed......

You'd think they would get this system working and then make the changes, but nope. The strikes have given RM the reason to force through every revision now and deal with the problems later.

Personally I predict a massive failure coming soon to a sorting office near you......

The idea that trays could arrive pre-sorted and you simply bundle up and go, is pure bunkum.

Can't see them taking the large from anyone, based on past posts it seems like the trend now is that the large to go back to the walks

That's what I thought, going by recent posts on the subject they'll do it but then give them back later, obviously without reducing the duties accordingly, oh yeah and whilst also shafting everyone who took the parcel duties expecting an easier days work to take the strain off aching limbs,backs and dodgy knees and getting bumped back to being reserves.

Letters and flats sequence, slide the little packets in as you go along, taking the 4 d2d's out of another bag, blah blah. Get packets pre sorted into sacks and we will start from there. Yet another rushed revision given NO thought or planning. Only the pathetic little green man on the computer filling their brains with figures. NO progress in 10 years, never ever learn.

And then will they expect these spare people to be the people they will use for the new parcel jobs?

How many parcels are they expecting to suddenly start arriving?

It takes about 6 hours to do 75 or so parcels, as calculated by RON. That’s a job for one person which will Hoover up the parcels from 3 or 4 walks.

There are going to be too many parcel people and the whole idea is less efficient than what we do now.

They might be expecting that but if you read and show your manager the RM guidance put out to COM’s, they can actually force you to do a parcel duty or even change your working outs (they can upto 7am if u currently start before then)
