John Nicolson criticised the 'increasingly chaotic' Royal Mail after he was refused entry by the local manager claiming he had 'arranged a visit' to the sorting centre

An Indignant Nationalist MP has publicly fumed about being knocked back for a visit to a Royal Mail sorting office.

John Nicolson claims he was refused entry to his "local Alloa sorting office" by the manager, despite claiming he had "arranged a visit".

The MP for Ochil and South Perthshire said he spoke with Communication Workers Union representative Owain Beaumont instead who let him inside the building on Monday, January 30.

The angered elected representative said he would be writing to the chief executive of Royal Mail about his "bizarre experience" with the "increasingly chaotic" company.

Mr Nicolson tweeted: "Bizarre experience with increasingly chaotic RoyalMail. Arranged a visit to my local Alloa Sorting Office for a tour. On arrival an alarmed looking manager refused to let me in. So I talked to Communication Workers Union, rep Owain Beaumont instead. Will be writing to company chief executive."
Jock Smith commented: "LOL. When corporate cretins goes wrong."

Sue Reeve, added: "Poor! Wow, their opening hours are good! 2 hours a day here, 4 on a Saturday, whether you need it or not!."

Members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) are walked out on four dates in August, September, November and December as part of a dispute over pay.

The most significant effect was that Royal Mail did not deliver any letters on these days, except for those sent by Special Delivery. Special Delivery parcels prioritised.

Royal Mail promised to “prioritise the delivery of Covid test kits and medical prescriptions wherever possible” when strikes are taking place, alongside its Tracked24 parcels.

The CWU agreed to recommence facilitated talks through intermediator ACAS. The Royal Mail said on its website that "it is committed to reach an agreement to resolve the current pay and change disputes to secure the company's future and its employees' long-term job security. The talks commenced on Monday 9 January and are ongoing."

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “Royal Mail has a longstanding tradition of welcoming elected politicians of all parties to visit our operational sites. On this occasion it appears that local managers had not been informed that a colleague had invited John Nicholson MP to visit the Alloa Delivery Office.

"We have been in contact with Mr Nicholson’s office to assure him that he would be very welcome to visit on a future occasion and we look forward to making the arrangements with his team.”

I wouldn’t let anyone from the SNP in either.

It is important people's representative's are allowed to see the reality of what is going on in Royal Mail.

We are still being told to prioritise everything over mail. Despite Simon Thompson sending that clarification email to all offices.
