Hi. I’ve recently left Royal Mail and was working there for around 2 years. I’ve just started a new job and received this in the post today that I owe almost £900 in tax that wasn’t paid by Royal Mail.
I wonder how this has happened as my tax got deducted every week from my pay? Was Royal Mail not paying my tax to the office?
I’ve paid the amount standing now as I phoned them and asked about it but has anyone has the same sort of thing happen?
Thanks

Re: Tax
If you haven't already, get yourself sign up to the gov.uk Personal Tax Account. https://www.gov.uk/personal-tax-account
Might be handy to see what hmrc are seeing / saying your taxes were. Can compare to pay slips/ p45s / p60s.

Re: Tax
I'm in my second year and it's the second year in a row I've had a letter from HMRC informing me that I've underpaid and will be paying extra on all pay until April. I can only assume it's the part timers fluctuating pay that does it

Re: Tax
Just add up your pay before tax, since April 5th , take away £12570 and take 20% of that figure, this is the amount of tax you should have paid. Add up how much you have actually paid and if there's a discrepancy, take it up with HR.Kenfandango wrote: ↑26 Jan 2023, 16:13I'm in my second year and it's the second year in a row I've had a letter from HMRC informing me that I've underpaid and will be paying extra on all pay until April. You can also do this to get your tax free pay changed to £12,630.

Can only think this would be benefit in kind from something you took out on MyBundle and didn't declare to HMRC, most like a technology product?TravelPostie wrote: ↑25 Jan 2023, 19:13Hi.
