So the tracked would be walk sorted to deliveries with regular packets and then we have to scan them at the fitting ready for delivery? Great idea, that'll get us out much faster

Bit like Sunday parcel deliveries. Were customers actually clamouring to be woken up on their day off by us banging on the door with a parcel?
At the moment Sunday parcels are a cost to the business. Have they actually brought in extra parcel business to cover the cost?
Plus, much of the tracked ‘parcels’ are letter size or small packets which we would normally deliver more efficiently on a Monday on our walks.
I’m obviously not paid enough to see how that all miraculously makes financial sense.

The position at the moment is not to scan the missorts.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑25 Jan 2023, 06:58The missorts would get a missort scan and then go to wherever the missorts goWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑24 Jan 2023, 19:55Including the inevitable missorts?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑24 Jan 2023, 19:52RM need to implement some kind of bulk "Item arrive at DO" scan so that someone can just scan the york and the system shows all the items in the york as having arrived at the DO
It tends to piss the customer off if they see their parcel is ready for delivery at the wrong end of the country.

I barely have enough room on my aisle for the tub of non-oversize packets to prep to my frame. Will these packets be aisle sorted (as our oversize is at the moment) or frame sorted? Surely there's some sort of health & safety impact in the event of fire?

“What are the downsides of this way of working?”
And every single reason is, if not nonsense(accurate eta delivery time ffs) then is a positive rather than a negative.
Absolute bullshit from this company as usual.
Only Royal Mail would try and convince people that having 75 people do a job is less likely to result in mistakes than 4.

Do we not already do that?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑24 Jan 2023, 19:52RM need to implement some kind of bulk "Item arrive at DO" scan so that someone can just scan the york and the system shows all the items in the york as having arrived at the DO
Edit - I’ll answer my own question, because I’ve realised we clearly don’t given none of the York’s have identifying barcodes on them.
The stupid thing is, lots of warehouse businesses have standard processes to identify the movement of items within containers so it wouldn’t be that hard to implement across the business.

I believe the arrival scans into DOs currently every item has to be individually scannedCamPostie wrote: ↑25 Jan 2023, 19:21Do we not already do that?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑24 Jan 2023, 19:52RM need to implement some kind of bulk "Item arrive at DO" scan so that someone can just scan the york and the system shows all the items in the york as having arrived at the DO

The only items scanned on arrival at our DO are the Tracked and Special Delivery items, following which the customer gets a text etc advising their item is due to be delivered. apparently this was trialled previously in our DO but it failed as OPG's were "forgetting" to scan the items at their frame so the customer wasn't receiving the delivery message. This is yet another EA w/o any input from the CWU.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑25 Jan 2023, 19:29I believe the arrival scans into DOs currently every item has to be individually scannedCamPostie wrote: ↑25 Jan 2023, 19:21Do we not already do that?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑24 Jan 2023, 19:52RM need to implement some kind of bulk "Item arrive at DO" scan so that someone can just scan the york and the system shows all the items in the york as having arrived at the DO

It is not too difficult tbh or time consuming. anything not tracked you just sort in the normal way. Put all the tracked seperate. Then you just scan them all RFD.If you are on a trolley delivery and you chuck it out for the driver, you dont scan it - he does.Any complaints you know who scanned in the item

The majority of York’s have a barcode on the white plastic plate on the back of them. The MC’s have the facility in their PDA’s to scan them to track workflow.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑25 Jan 2023, 19:29I believe the arrival scans into DOs currently every item has to be individually scannedCamPostie wrote: ↑25 Jan 2023, 19:21Do we not already do that?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑24 Jan 2023, 19:52RM need to implement some kind of bulk "Item arrive at DO" scan so that someone can just scan the york and the system shows all the items in the york as having arrived at the DO

Can DOs already do the same or do they currently have to be individually (the items) scanned in as arrived at the DO?PDAHappy wrote: ↑25 Jan 2023, 21:31The majority of York’s have a barcode on the white plastic plate on the back of them.

Ahead of this change is everybody else now getting a load of needless information on their PDA's about tracked items which are due to be delivered? What's the point of showing the information?

OPG
Given that the majority of deliveries are carried out by shared van routes, I wonder if these changes should be postponed until the functionality to support Shared Pair routes is deployed?
Field Planning Manager
We've developed S2CR to support Estimated Delivery Window (EDW) improvements and the first version was built on a basis of a single walk. This version has been working for 6 months at Cranleigh DO so we know it's stable and works- but as you say doesn't cater for shared pairs. We're working with the PDA Technology team to develop an updated version that will support shared pairs / van shares. This work is going on now- we'll let everyone know when the update is available.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
