Re: Voluntary redundancies
Never heard anything about how to apply for VR, RM and the union (yes I do pay every week), soon send out propaganda crap when it suits them.
So I missed applying.
So I missed applying.

Re: Voluntary redundancies
Think the reason some of the lads did engage in it, is cos the way the jobs went this last few years...they'de simply had enough...I've spoke to a few, they say it used to be a good job but now it just feels broken and their hearts are not in it any more. I was asked why I didn't go for it, but I feel they are deliberately trying to sicken people and get them out on the cheap. I've got 2 years left till I'm state pension age....I've got no mortgage and no debt, but why the f**k should I go with less than it was...this c*** Thompson and his cronies can f**k right off. I'm not using my savings to get me to my goal. I can take 2 more years of their f***ing s**t. After being here for 30, two more will fly by.

Re: Voluntary redundancies
Alternatively, you could have left on VR with 24 grand tax free. Effectively you are going to work those last 2 years for your take home pay less that 24 grand that you could have had for not working at all.daveyeff wrote: ↑17 Jan 2023, 22:04Think the reason some of the lads did engage in it, is cos the way the jobs went this last few years...they'de simply had enough...I've spoke to a few, they say it used to be a good job but now it just feels broken and their hearts are not in it any more. Imagine if the government offered you your state pension 2 years early if you retired immediately. You would probably have snapped their hands off for less money than the current VR offer.

Re: Voluntary redundancies
Exactly, its money tax free for not actually working. Almost like retiring a year early. OK there would have been no pension contributions for a couple of years but if i were 2 yrs away with no debt, and were offered VR under current terms you wouldn't see me for dust!

Re: Voluntary redundancies
The VR package works out as about 62 weeks take home pay for a full timer, based on a normal flat week(no OT, etc). Anything below £30k is tax free!Schiff wrote: ↑18 Jan 2023, 09:04Alternatively, you could have left on VR with 24 grand tax free. Which means daveyeff would then have 104 weeks to earn the equivalent of 42 weeks RM pay, to be in the same financial position, wages wise, as staying on at RM for those 2 years.
Or else tighten his belt a little and just enjoy an earlier retirement.
Personally, I'd have grabbed that with both hands! But each to their own.

Re: Voluntary redundancies
i will make more in the 2 years i have left, (60,000 from my previous 2 yrs before tax & NI) thats good enough for me and also have my NRA 65 pension to get. the way things are at the moment i dont fancy pulling out almost 300 per month in energy bills out of my VR money, i'd rather pay it out of the money i get off them weekly, with some left over to save. i'm not ready to tighten my belt yet. 2 yrs is not a life sentence, ive just done 30.
......besides, knowing my luck, had i taken the offer, a few months down the road the MTSF gets re-instated and i would be well gutted.

Re: Voluntary redundancies
So you'd sooner work pretty much 2 yrs for one yrs pay? VR would have been one yrs salary £30k (£24k tax free). You would be giving up £30k before tax and also paying more tax on your nra 65 when you get it. I know which I'd have chosen especially being debt free. How much money do you really need?daveyeff wrote: ↑18 Jan 2023, 16:10i will make more in the 2 years i have left, (60,000 from my previous 2 yrs before tax & NI) thats good enough for me and also have my NRA 65 pension to get. the way things are at the moment i dont fancy pulling out almost 300 per month in energy bills out of my VR money, i'd rather pay it out of the money i get off them weekly, with some left over to save. i'm not ready to tighten my belt yet. 2 yrs is not a life sentence, ive just done 30.......besides, knowing my luck, had i taken the offer, a few months down the road the MTSF gets re-instated and i would be well gutted.

Re: Voluntary redundancies
Well the way things are with the cost of living, and energy bills....you would be pulling all that out of the 24 grand. I want to use "their" money to pay for shite like that....they are getting rid of people on the cheap...had i have been 65 i wouldve took it...but they are getting rid for 12 grand per year...f**k them...it no big deal for me to graft it. Some would take it and run...fair nuff. As Robert T says....to each their own.

Re: Voluntary redundancies
Option one. - no work and one years pay. 40 hrs a week spare to work elsewhere part time. More energy, no stress.
Option two ~ two years work for two years pay In a s**t, back breaking , stressful and pressured job. potentially striking for another year, conditions being destroyed and worse hours coming in.
“Option two please”
