Been told in our office that we can only carry a week of holidays across to next year so everyone has been booking like mad to use their hours up. Now there’s no spaces left for those of us to use our leave up so what happens now?
We can’t carry them and we can’t use them and according to them we now lose them.

Just quote the law to them. The company cannot stop you taking your leave but can tell you when to take it. If they cannot fit it in they will have to come to an arrangement with you or they are breaking the law.

Re: Carrying holiday hours over
The business is not stopping you from taking your statutory annual leave entitlement, so not breaking the law. The individual employee agreed to derogate that statutory right with agreeing on a proportion included in the following year's annual leave entitlement through choice.
Carrying over annual leave by agreement through collective bargaining is three days max unless on long-term sick. Failure to take that leave within 18 months of entitlement, you can lose it all.
The problem is people agreeing to carry over annual leave rather than demanding their statutory entitlement in that assigned leave year.

Carrying leave into another year:Way forward agreement
Annual leave should generally be taken in the year that it is due, and the business expects all employees to have at least four weeks away from work every year. However up to one week (or 5 odd days) may be carried over into the next leave year, and up to five days may be anticipated during the last month of the previous leave year. Transfer of leave in excess of these limits requires written permission from the line manager, except that leave that cannot be taken due to sick leave may be allowed in the following year. Where this is granted and would reduce the annual leave taken in a particular leave year to less than four weeks, the individual must also confirm in writing that they are willing to voluntarily forgo their statutory leave entitlement under the Working Time Regulations 1998.
To muddy the waters further:Working Time Regulations 1998
(2) Where the proportion of leave taken by the worker is less than the proportion of the leave year which has expired, his employer shall make him a payment in lieu of leave in accordance with paragraph (3)...

RM CWU joint statement
The amount of leave outstanding in delivery will remain the subject of regular review between RM and CWU
nationally. There should be a joint review of any outstanding leave that can be taken this year and an assessment
made in each office of any leave that can be aligned to available leave slots up to 31st March 2022, allowing for
outstanding leave to be managed over the coming months to the end of the year...

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Carrying holiday hours over
This as far as I know only apllies to statutory leave each year. So anything over 4 weeks statutory is possibly not covered.
From 1st January 2024, 4000 Retained EU laws (our laws) lapse (such is the plan at the moment) if they are not replaced by anything BEFOREHAND then annual leave, hse laws, pretty much any thing you can imagine no longer apply. Get it booked now. Threaten, cajole do whatever, but get it in writing.

Re: Carrying holiday hours over
Hi guys,
I have 25 additional hours available to use from what I see in the application, should I use them to the end or else they will be forfeited or transferred to the new year?
And if I want to quit my job, will I get paid for the hours I didn't use?

Meanwhile people ask for annual leave, get told there are too many people off, who then work their annual leave.

If you leave before the end of the tax/holiday year you get paid for them.
