At the time of The Way Forward Agreement there was a move by PHGs and Drivers to join the GMB.

RM wouldn’t recognise it.
Know of a few posties in gmb.

I am seriously considering leaving them and joining the workers union, it's cheaper they offer the same job protections but just without the over inflated salaries for the top people in the union or the political bs that most members do not care about.
Good luck joining another union when RM don't want to recognise the CWU .
You might as well just give your money straight to your manager. :cuppa
The workers union offer legal aid and advice if needed, just like all the cwu offer now. The cwu are a joke, overpaid leadership who sit in their big offices in London and take their members for granted. Please tell what protections they have gave us in the last 6 months while royal mail have been trashing our working conditions? They have done nothing except talk tough, royal mail are treating the cwu like meaningless clowns, and the cwu are treating its members like meaningless clowns. For six months their only response to royal mail has been strike, even though it has been clear royal mail don't care. All the cwu have done is make their members poorer and allowed their working conditions to get worse. Useless leadership both nationally and regionally.

Tactics have to be cuter. Strikes achieve some disruption, but we have a management structure that just couldn't care less about that, and are quite happy to see us lose pay and still clear any backlog, even if it takes a few weeks to do so.

Christmas showed that Thompson is a 'winner takes all' kind of a guy. Strict work-to-rule, and a ban on all overtime, over losing days pay hand over fist, a no brainer.

So hes a clown for having an opinion you don't like.
I don't like or dislike the opinion. It's just a clown opnion.

The workers union provide "the same job protections"? As the CWU? To postal workers? :cuppa
I have been at royal mail long enough to know that the union will talk tough but at the end will give royal mail everything they want. The union leadership are weak. Maybe not all of it this time, but over the next few agreements royal mail will make all the changes they want. Our jobs and working conditions have gotten way worse in the last 10 plus years because the union keep selling us out at every agreement, they dangle a lump sum in front of the members and give royal mail most of the things they want. Again weak useless leadership. Those job protections you talk about keep getting withered away with every agreement, only a clown would think that was a great union allowing that to happen.

The union maybe selling us out but it's delivery staff who vote the agreements in. Delivery staff outnumber all MC and RDC staff combined bt 2:1, it's probably more likely 3:1 or even 4:1 these days

Disappointing post. Adds nothing to the debate and tries to limit the free speech of someone he disagrees with. :thumbdown

I wish we had fewer of these types of posts as they don't generate debate, rather they seem to quash it.

Ah well, let's move on.

But that's about all they would offer, as RM will neither negotiate with them on a national basis or recognise them in any situation where an individual needs representation.
Utterly pointless being in any other union than the CWU, sad to say.

Agreed. Soz.

I will say though, the idea that a small and unrecognised union can provide anything like the same protection as the CWU is.... er... wrong.

If anyone disagrees they can always ask the Workers Union rep in their office about it :hmmmm

You might have a problem with the CWU. I don't agree with your opinion but fair enough. The CWU are far from perfect.

But they have been and still are the best and only chance we - that's me, you and every postie - have of protecting our jobs and conditions.

Oh and sorry for the clown comment.

You know how you have a finish time and cut off procedure and sick pay and an agreed sick procedure and a paid break and sundays off and a right to ask for transport to complete your work and a delivery supplement and a conduct procedure that must be followed for you to face disciplinary action, and the aquaduct, and law and order and santiation....?

THAT protection.

What would YOU do Iva?
Something the union would.never dream of, and that would be ask the members what they want to do, give them a list and tell them to rank the main issues to fight for, then make another list on actions to take and again ask them to rank it, then do what the.majority members decide. I don't need 130 000 a year to do it either. I mean the nerve of Dave Ward telling us to strike while still paying our subs for his over inflated pay. He talks about solidarity, well maybe he should try living on our salary, instead of being paid more than 5 times the average posties salary. At the very least he should have donated 50% of his salary to the strike fund. Just think of that he gets 5 times our salary for doing what? The union needs a massive overhaul to make it more democratic, get rid of the jobs for the boys mentality, and kick out the overpaid sponges that have been stealing a living.
