Are the union leadership incompetent?
So we have been striking for months with very little effect on Royal Mail's stance imo. The union need to change tactics and go for an all out overtime ban and forget about striking anymore. Royal mail clearly do not care if we strike because the overtime hawks just clear the offices the day after the strikes. A ban on overtime means we all get our basic salary and Royal Mail would be screwed because their business relies on overtime. The fact that the union has went months without telling its members to work to rule, just highlights to me what a bunch of incompetent people we have at the top. While they have been shouting about striking and hurting Royal Mail, Royal Mail have been making massive changes in every office, trampling on our working conditions and benefits, pushing through revisions, forcing people of their rounds etc etc with the union doing absolutely nothing to stop them. Our union is so bad, I am seriously considering leaving them and joining the workers union, it's cheaper they offer the same job protections but just without the over inflated salaries for the top people in the union or the political bs that most members do not care about.

In the current economic climate I can't see an overtime ban working, probably way too many people will ignore it for it to have any affect

People in this job just can’t say no to overtime. Dangle that carrot in My office and the same blokes go for it every time. They just can’t say no. I doubt other places are any different

I'd be inclined to agree, yes we all know the place relies heavily on overtime but stopping that won't have the desired effect of causing disruption to the big parcel sending customers like an all out strike does, all that'll happen is mail will get rotated again or agency staff used, whatever is necessary to prioritise parcels.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑16 Jan 2023, 19:37In the current economic climate I can't see an overtime ban working, probably way too many people will ignore it for it to have any affect

Re: Are the union leadership incompetent?
Royal Mail do not care about the disruption, they literally just allowed strikes to happen throughout xmas. Strikes are not working, they are just making posties poorer, at least an overtime ban would give every postie their basic wage, only royal mail would be hurt. It's easy for Ward to say strike as he isn't losing money or struggling financially like many posties have been in the strikes, he has his cushy 130 000 pound salary to count on the strike days. Like I said the leadership of the cwu are useless.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑16 Jan 2023, 19:48I'd be inclined to agree, yes we all know the place relies heavily on overtime but stopping that won't have the desired effect of causing disruption to the big parcel sending customers like an all out strike does, all that'll happen is mail will get rotated again or agency staff used, whatever is necessary to prioritise parcels.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑16 Jan 2023, 19:37In the current economic climate I can't see an overtime ban working, probably way too many people will ignore it for it to have any affect

Royal Mail know these next strike dates won’t make a tiny bit of difference our office is dead at the moment barley any mail they want 11 duties fine the callers office gone then they’ll take the parcels to the hubs
What will be left ? 10-12 mile duties

Like I said Royal Mail are trashing everything at the moment, the DOM know the union are a joke and are basically doing what they want as they know no one will stop them as the union are doing sweet fa. If these current negotiations break down (which I think they will) if Dave Ward says more strikes I'm going to leave them and join the workers union as I will lose all faith in the cwu.

Re: Are the union leadership incompetent?
Definitely seems logical. Some be like, "well it won't work because people would just work it." Well, between losing a day's pay and turning up next day for an hour's overtime to clear the walk, or turning up and working your hours? Bare in mind overtime rate is s**t anyways, I know which one I would pick

Re: Are the union leadership incompetent?
Said this on a previous thread. If somebody breaks a strike they are called a strike breaker. If there is an overtime strike then anyone who works overtime is a strike breaker. Everyone knows who is doing overtime so what will the union do....... just call another strike, we all lose a days pay, overtimers are in 2 hours early next day. Never going to win.

The workers union provide "the same job protections"? As the CWU? To postal workers?

Good luck joining another union when RM don't want to recognise the CWU .I am seriously considering leaving them and joining the workers union, it's cheaper they offer the same job protections but just without the over inflated salaries for the top people in the union or the political bs that most members do not care about.
You might as well just give your money straight to your manager.
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!

At the time of The Way Forward Agreement there was a move by PHGs and Drivers to join the GMB.
RM wouldn’t recognise it.
