How many of you plan on leaving?

Can i ask what your hourly rate is? I was shocked to see a Morrisons home delivery job advertised at £9.80/hour!

Sainsbury’s are now paying £11/hour minimum for all staff and 10-15% discount on their shopping. As a package that’s pretty much our salary without the weather, aggro,injuries etc…

Tesco general assistants which are checkouts, shop floor etc get 10.30ph. Dot.com drivers get more as do night staff. 10% discount which increases to 15% each pay day weekend, 20% on clothes.

36 years and 55 so no plans to leave immediately, it's too early for my pensions, I plan to stick it out and claim it at 60 then see where I go after that, managers have given up on trying to make me take more than I can manage as I would just dig my heels in, nowadays I'm just marking time til I'm ready and not before for financial reasons, I would rather leave with money than no money, they have to offer me a lot of money to jump and the current VR offer is taking the Mickey so no.

It's good to have a plan I'm aiming to take my pension in 2yrs,I'll be 55, weather I could afford to leave I'm not sure, I could at least go part time

If you're not able financially to leave, I wouldn't take my pension at 55, that's a massive cut to it.

Plus if you're still earning more than £12570 you'll be paying tax on your already much reduced pension.

I get that leaving the pension until 60 of 65 is financially a great idea, but over the years seeing workmates dropping dead at 50, some retiring at 60 and not getting to 65, made me think fxck it I'm taking it as soon as poss, quite a few have and are doing the same at my office. I get you can make the argument the other way but it's a choice that's right for me.

Fair enough, as long as you've done the figures. It was just that you said you were going to still carry on working.

I probably will have to carry on working unless my numbers come in if I take my lump sum and pension at 55 and get 10 years out of it I see it as better than waiting until I'm 60 or 65 and not getting much time to enjoy it. Seems a tad pessimistic on the face of it I suppose

I now work mostly indoors now as well , do you find the days drag at your place ?

Depends which shift. I work in a small store I can walk to from my home and there is usually something to do to keep busy. If I do a late shift, the last hour drags a bit. I started a couple of months before I left RM to check I would like it before jumping ship. The reason I chose Tesco was because my shifts are the same each week, while some other stores put you on a rota. I only work P/T (as I did at RM) but there are always additional shifts I can volunteer for if I feel like it. Obviously money is less but I feel so much better physically & mentally.

I leave in 2 weeks after 8 years. Thought i would end my working life at RM, but hate it now

We’ve had ten in my office leave in the past 2 weeks. One woman went yesterday and doesn’t even have anything lined up that’s how much she hates the job.

Three more going on VR in February meaning would be could be another 15 staff short by April.

13 years service. Started age 22, thought I might work my whole career here but this last year has made my mind up. I’ll be out of here in the next 2 years, with a bit of luck before this Xmas coming. Currently mulling over getting my heavy goods license and take things from their, costs a bit of money but should be worth it long term.
Absolutely hate the day in day out of too much workload, the constant battles with management about leaving stuff in so I can get done on time, the little niggles of pain that have started to creep in all over my body from walking a half marathon every day, the complete exhaustion I feel after 4pm when getting home each day. Wouldn’t recommend this job to my worst enemy.

I think you only have to give one weeks notice (is that correct?) but if you have taken your whole leave allowance do you have to work a bit longer to cover that, and how do you find out? Manager or HR dept? One guy left but had to work for a number of weeks otherwise he would have owed the company money as he had used all his leave. Good luck to everyone who makes the jump, and good luck to everyone who has to stay.

I resigned before xmas and royal mail are still paying me !
