I have a fit note, due to go back in on Tuesday. Had a phone call today telling me to come in tomorrow for a couple of hours as Royal Mail won't pay me, I will only get statutory pay. Told them that they were just making their own rules up now. Was told that I was fit enough to do a couple of hours even though note says not fit to work.
The important point to remember is that the office DOM (Doctor Of Medicine), has been duly promoted to COM (Consultant Of Medicine)

I just read through this whole thread, so what’s the bottom line here? Do we need to get a doctors note for the first week? Or is this just one office taking the piss?

Been told in our office too - no sick note, no pay. My GP won't give one for being off under seven days so I either go in sick or stay off for a week. Another brilliant idea from RM.

This can’t be a national thing surely… must just be rogue gaffers trying it on?
I'm currently on long term sick, went in to see my manager other day,just a general chat on my well being and asked when if I might be back ,no mention of stopping pay.he was understanding and really good about things,

If you've been signed off by your GP there's not a lot RM can do about it, the issue seems to be paying sick pay for the first week of absence without a sick note, there's even staff who've suffered injuries at work apparently being denied sick pay.

Yes , however in the past I've had managers try to gently bully me back to work even though I've had a Drs note,this has happened to colleagues too with some buckling under pressure, so it was a bit surprising that there wasnt any push for me to return

Go see a solicitor who deals in employment law give the names of managers and the whole facts and get them to deal with it and I bet they will reinstate pay and back date it!

It's a load of hassle just to get sick pay paid when it's always been paid previously, plus who pays the solicitor costs as they ain't working for free?
