To me it's clear that strikes have had a massive impact, and the threat of more is what has brought the CEO to be the only party making any concessions. The CWU have only said they'd hold off strikes, which I think they wouldn't have the time to serve notice for anyway, whilst also continuing to push for a further ballot. For me a return to a joint collaboration, with the cwu, over revisions, returning to previous agreements and framework, at a local level, is a hell of big step backward for RM, considering they've been announcing God knows how many redundancies, and duties cuts, through EA. I haven't had a look at the posts on other threads yet, but I imagine it's gonna be a load of hate and disappointment. Clearly something has been going on this last week, and clearly strikes are having an impact. I can only see this as a positive step.

They're holding off strikes, while RM backtracks, so talks can commence. Nothing to do with balls. The union is still continuing to reballot us, all they've done is say they'll hold back the strikes. As much as u probably hate to admit it, the strikes have got RM to agree to talks under condition they revert back to previous agreements, at local level, regarding changes.

I'm assuming you mean balls, as in the plural?

They were still talking when striking before christmas so why the change of plan.

Dave ward said a couple of weeks ago , they didn’t want to burn us out regarding strikes, January is a tough month having just had 2 strike days taken from our wages yesterday.

Every month is tough pay the same bills every month.

Have a bit of common sense , more money is spent at Xmas obviously.

I heard from some Angard's who were booked in all over xmas & new year that even though it was dead work wise there was nobody at Angard's office to cancel anyone, so they all got tons of shifts. Aparently Angard's had an extended xmas holiday just like the CWU.

Things will change on mon 9th.

Seems a bit of a pointless gesture/request from RM and CWU as with the 14 days notice needed - we couldnt have went on strike until after the 20th anyway

That is simply not true.

Because of the influx with Royal Mail contracted casual christmas staff, Angard workers were getting shifts allocated each day, if at all, never pre booked.

Surely they need to fill vacancies in offices before getting rid of all agency workers.

We are massively understaffed and I see no jobs advertised for our office.... so I expect the agency staff to be around at least until we have recruited new permanent staff.

My unit could cut 20% of staff and manage easily. We couldn't have managed 3 years ago but things have changed.

The mail is never cleared. I've seen staff being sent home on a morning because their jobs are lapsed or their mail is left in. They owe the time back or take annual leave days. Still plenty of staff knocking off early.

We haven't followed the uso since 2020.

I'm pretty sure that this is about the union selling us out while pretending to have won a victory for us. We will be presented with an "absolutely best, last and final offer" which the union will present as a victory and recommend that we accept, but which will give Thompson most of what he wants and make the job a nightmare for many posties.

I hope that when the time comes to vote members consider whether the offer crosses their personal red lines and vote accordingly, rather than simply accept any shitty deal.

We are not going to get it all our own way and that’s the reality, Royal Mail have already rolled back on compulsory redundancy, compulsory Sunday working and have now allowed the union to be involved with revisions again , small steps but the job will be changing whether we like it or not.

Small steps but personally I won’t be voting for any deal that involves later starts. Too many people will have too many issues with it.

The company is not interested in clearing duties, and they are not interested filling vacancies. The way that Christmas was allowed to go down the pan shows they do not care about mail failing.

The office I left in August is carrying 17 vacancies on 70 duties, and there has been no recruitment for over a year. Over half the staff worked their days off over Christmas pressure, by doing that they played straight into the company's hands. Duties will become bigger and the number of posties will drop.
