The average postie could point out potential problems with just about every new idea they have come up with while they rapidly race towards the bottom. But anyone who knows what they are talking about isn't wanted at RM.

Yep!! Pretty much sums up where we and the business are. Such a bloody shame!!!!

I had the joy of lugging a 15kg box on a 500m or so walk to a shop in an area that I can't park the van at (local buses and cycles only) and finding that the shop I had the box for was closed.

No problem, I thought, the shop a few units down might take it.

Sure thing, they said.

Then, when I scanned the box (as we are supposed to scan the item at its actual destination) it said "Under no circumstances should this item be left with a neighbour".

I wasted my time going there and I wasted their time asking them.

Then I am left standing holding a heavy box with nowhere to deliver it.

Highlight of my day.

Not being a smart arse honest but you can scan the parcel anywhere you like as long as you submit the scan at its destination.

Fairly sure the PDAs grab the location data when the actual scan is done, not when it's submitted

How sure are you? Makes more sense to me that it would be once submit or whatever has been clicked? But would be good to know for sure if i am wrong.

Positive. I scanned a few tracks & non-tracks. Left them on the PDA until I got one that needed a signature a loop later. Checked the location of each of them and it showed the point of scan....not when it was submitted. This was before we needed to take for photo for everything.

On a slightly related point, in the last few weeks, I've noticed more and more Tracked items that DON'T require you to take a photo when delivering to customer. Most of them have a tracking number that starts XL (I think it is of the top of my head). Do the senders who buy tracked postage with these XL tracking numbers get a discounted rate to those who use tracked where a photo is required on delivery?

From ebay , ebay seem hell bent on selling other couriers products so they get their commission , still says on there that were striking so "dont use royal mail ", on the topic of ebay , see how many counterfeit stamps are on sale !!

I was told (but have never had it confirmed elsewhere) that if a private individual buys the postage for a Tracked item, it won't require a photo on delivery but for a business it will.

Recently posted 3 separate items, purchased tracked 48 on the RM app as a private customer, all 3 got a photo.

I posted one to my nephew by tracked 24 so it would arrive for Xmas (it did!), which had a photo taken. However, it was left in a ‘safe place’ in the driveway in front of the car. I hadn’t specified a safe place and neither had my nephew.

That's a typical courier safeplace - who we are competing with according to ST.

Delivered a parcel to a property today to known safeplace (outbuilding). Two courier parcels also left - a cardboard one on the mat by the
rear door which looked like it had got a good soaking overnight and a second one under the garden trampoline on the grass, again cardboard soaking wet.

These Tracked items with the tracking number starting XL that don't require a photo have been from businesses, not private individuals. The plot thickens.

You don't need to specify a safe place as a postie can leave it in a safe place they feel is suitable.

Wrong, the GPS is registered upon scan. So if you scan it 100m from recipients and they then file a denial of receipt, then the GPS will show it delivered 100m away!

You have the occupant of the house saying deliver to safeplace but the sender saying dont deliver to safeplace

What happens if the sender states "not to be left at neighbour or in safe place" but the receiver has stated " If not in please take to neighbour at 23". Both of these flag up on the PDA screen if requested so which one takes priority, by that I mean does one request simply knock the other out of the system or will a postie actually get both messages? Could be interesting!!

Not trying to be a dick, but what part of "under no circumstances" are you having difficulty understanding?

If you read what I was saying you will see that I was questioning how will the PDA software actually work if it receives a request from both parties.

I repeat for your benefit - will it flag up both requests to the postie at once or will one request override the earlier one. All I commented was that it would be interesting to see.

Can’t see why you’ve seen the need to make such a comment god knows how long after my original post. Strange one you are!!!

Well today, I had a redelivery on a Tracked packet that I couldn’t deliver the first time as the PDA had expressly told me not to leave under any circumstances.

I normally leave parcels in this customer’s porch because she works. Again, the PDA told me not to leave it. So I didn’t.

Both times I wrote on the form that the item couldn’t be left in the safe place.

Customers are going to complain about this because it’s annoying for them.
