No problem, I thought, the shop a few units down might take it.
Sure thing, they said.
Then, when I scanned the box (as we are supposed to scan the item at its actual destination) it said "Under no circumstances should this item be left with a neighbour".
I wasted my time going there and I wasted their time asking them.
Then I am left standing holding a heavy box with nowhere to deliver it.

In my experience it grabs the the location when you scan the barcode, hence the reason why we're always informed to "scan at the door".mjd24 wrote: ↑03 Jan 2023, 17:50How sure are you? I am happy with this as now we finally have an answer to the people with ring doorbells who want you to try everyone within a ten mile radius. Now you can simply state that you are not allowed

’You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.’

Very simple.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑01 Jan 2023, 10:36Why don't RM rig it so that when it's either scanned as "Ready for Delivery" or "Accept item" in the DO, having it display something on screen so that then a suitable info sticker could be placed on the item?Splappy_McSplap wrote: ↑01 Jan 2023, 07:52I had the joy of lugging a 15kg box on a 500m or so walk to a shop in an area that I can't park the van at (local buses and cycles only) and finding that the shop I had the box for was closed.

The postie scanning it for delivery would probably miss it or not know what to do or couldn’t be arsed to deal with it or scrawl something unintelligible on it in Guy Fawkes style handwriting such as ‘N/A S/L XP1 Uncle Gladys’ which then confuses the hell out of whoever’s actually delivering the parcel.
The software would crash on the 1st day resulting in every tracked parcel coming up on the screen as do not leave. Arguments ensue as managers claim we will now be saving time not having to attempt neighbours as the planners stand in the background rubbing their hands together adding another 100 delivery points on.
The managers who are meant to be acquiring the stickers will only order 2 rolls, 1 of which was used to tape up the shattered parts of a frame or the wing mirror of an 03 combo van, and the other roll was last seen used by Bob who’s day off is today and has left it in his locker. Ordering more would eat in (pun intended) to whichever managers turn it is to do the McDonald’s trip.
Nothing in RM is ever done properly or competently.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Re: New for Tracked - "Can't be safeplaced/neigboured"
I have been told by our managers it grabs the location of the last scan and overrides/deletes all previous scans. For example, early on when we first started having to scan our own tracked ready for delivery I forgot to put it into indoor delivery and simply scanned everything as normal. Once I was outdoors it showed the delivery scan as being at the doorstep and not in the DO.TopperGas wrote: ↑03 Jan 2023, 21:48In my experience it grabs the the location when you scan the barcode, hence the reason why we're always informed to "scan at the door".mjd24 wrote: ↑03 Jan 2023, 17:50How sure are you? Old scans don't get deleted, they'll stay in the system. if something gets scanned twice in a row it still shows as having been scanned twice in a row

It might stay in the system but the final scan will show delivered to wherever it was scanned last.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑04 Jan 2023, 11:25Old scans don't get deleted, they'll stay in the system. if something gets scanned twice in a row it still shows as having been scanned twice in a row
As an example, I go to # 1 King Street and scan on the doorstep as I’m meant to, no answer but I know their parents are in up the street at # 15, when I scan outside # 15 (being sure to select deliver to neighbour) it will show the delivery scan with the map at # 15.
On the posters original point, surely there’s someone here who works on the IT side for RM or has tried it with a parcel for their own address who can confirm once and for all.

For both them scans it'll show the location where it was scanned, the customer (sender) will only be able to see the location of the Delivered scan, but a screw with broader access will be able to see the location data for every scan.HTPostman wrote: ↑04 Jan 2023, 11:30It might stay in the system but the final scan will show delivered to wherever it was scanned last.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑04 Jan 2023, 11:25Old scans don't get deleted, they'll stay in the system. if something gets scanned twice in a row it still shows as having been scanned twice in a row

Tested to confirm today, scanned at doorstep of delivery/photo taken but didn't submit until I was about half a mile away at themjd24 wrote: ↑03 Jan 2023, 17:50How sure are you? next big parcel drop off. Checked on RM tracking - the map shows it being delivered at the point of scan not where I pressed 'submit'.

Re: New for Tracked - "Can't be safeplaced/neigboured"
What happens if the sender states "not to be left at neighbour or in safe place" but the receiver has stated " If not in please take to neighbour at 23". Both of these flag up on the PDA screen if requested so which one takes priority, by that I mean does one request simply knock the other out of the system or will a postie actually get both messages? Could be interesting!!

Re: New for Tracked - "Can't be safeplaced/neigboured"
It is quite simple contract law.
The sender pays RM for the service that they require. By doing that they have formed a contract with RM, for the delivery to complete the contract then the instruction of "do not leave" must be carried out.
The person it is being delivered to has a contract with the sender, any issues in the delivery requirements must be taken up by the buyer with the sender and not with RM. And certainly not with the postie.
I would think that the option for an in-flight instruction is not available for these items, though knowing RM they probably haven't thought of that.

Re: New for Tracked - "Can't be safeplaced/neigboured"
It just seems a bizarre option to be offering when
A: You're closing CSP so people can't collect an item
B: You're desperate to be like every other courier, you firmly believe their business model is better than yours yet you start offering a service that is the complete opposite to theirs.
Again it just shows the muddled thinking RM have, nothing joins up!
