Re: Cwu where are you ?
I don't follow the union, I'm part of it, the cwu isn't some separate entity trying to control us. It's been said many times that if letters including advertising ,flat items, bills were declining to the extent RM have claimed for the last 15 years there wouldn't be any

Re: Cwu where are you ?
If the union are wrong and everything Royal Mail is saying is true or even partly true, then why didn't Simon Thompson agree to a live broadcast meeting with Dave Ward either on National TV or through some other social media. This to me is a huge red flag, that they seem to be hiding something. If I was CEO and believed that Royal Mails way was the only way forward I would answer any questions I was asked and then let us people decide. Why did he refuse this?

Re: Cwu where are you ?
So you are happy with commit to deliver then? I for one am not. I don't fancy working on delivery at 9 at night with a torch in the middle of November!!cornstar18 wrote: ↑04 Jan 2023, 18:51But what if the union are wrong. What if letters have reached a critical point. I for one believe they have.. it takes double mail to feel challenged. Put that down to whatever reason you like. But to follow the union without question and at huge personal sacrifice is just plain daft.
The changes aren't that bad. Some will work, some won't. Notice how dave ward doesn't publicly specifically say they want us to work a bit later and the odd Sunday. Most service jobs do that. What do you think we're doing here?! Going for a little stroll and a nice chat. We're a profit driven business, deal with it

I could rant. It's futile. You're either hardcore union or you're not. Some of us are happy enough mooching about delivering letters and parcels whatever the time. It's just a job lol

Re: Cwu where are you ?
What would be the point. Its a waste of time for him really people wouldnt consider any points he made valid , he would be called a liar and scumbag and ward would have new soundbites to post on the union twitter page instead of actually communicating with members. 'Let the people decide' People will would still follow the union off a cliff if told to so wouldnt really make a differencewolfman wrote: ↑04 Jan 2023, 19:15If the union are wrong and everything Royal Mail is saying is true or even partly true, then why didn't Simon Thompson agree to a live broadcast meeting with Dave Ward either on National TV or through some other social media. Still using Agency staff at our office..22 of them, our posties told to leave bulkies for Agency staff, using same numbers now as before Xmas, no wonder we're losing moneyCharlesG wrote: ↑03 Jan 2023, 15:46I believe a breathing space is needed for members to get over the hit of December strikes. Many members went back to work on strike days and main reason was financial.
Also the weeks without strike action leave RM in a predicament as agency staff are not needed in many DOs as workload decreases post peak pressure. RM need agency for strike days but not really for now, if offices are clearing.
The silence usually means talks are ongoing and there is agreement for radio silence on both sides.

Re: Cwu where are you ?
"Hardcore union"? People who are prepared to continue striking aren't "hardcore union", they're just people who see the only way to preserve the security of their jobs and its terms, is collective bargaining, and that can only be achieved through a union. This idea that the union is a separate entity, is against the interests of any employee. Whether its just a job, or not, is irrelevant. What ST wants to do is a leap backwards. It's moving the bar back for not only us, but all workers. Things should be progressing, not going back to victorian times when work was precarious, and u had little to none rights as an employee. Honestly, it's not us, against RM and the union, we are the union.cornstar18 wrote: ↑04 Jan 2023, 19:31I could rant. It's futile. You're either hardcore union or you're not. The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I understand and agree with the rights and terms point. However, Do we not think an employer should be able to change working practices to try to improve their service. I agree there's bad ideas and problems but we voted for no change and an 11% pay increase, in a business that could possibly be making a loss (except the cwu tell us that's not possible)... so who exactly is being unreasonable IF the above is true.. I suppose we'll find out the truth soon enough!

Re: Cwu where are you ?
No union has agreed to change and modernisation more than the CWU . We had agreements in place like " The Pathway to Change'. Proper agreements for change and modernisation which Royal Mail simply tore up . No, this dispute isn't about change and modernisation , it''s all about destroying our union . It's not going to happen without Royal Mail destroying their own company . We really do now have some tinpot management .cornstar18 wrote: ↑04 Jan 2023, 19:56I understand and agree with the rights and terms point. Re: Cwu where are you ?
The crux of the argument that will not go away is "did we/the Union break this agreement by taking industrial action when we swore not to?"walthmstowman wrote: ↑04 Jan 2023, 20:07No union has agreed to change and modernisation more than the CWU . Were the Union solely instrumental in triggering this whole sorry episode of industrial strife by breaking their promise In this agreement.
Was the 2% rise part of the last agreement the Union signed?
This subject of breaking a no strike clause really needs to be brought to the surface and discussed.
It brings into question strong words like trust and faith.
I am an OPG Union man by the way and not a manager.
Thanks.

Re: Cwu where are you ?
Also interesting in this. Didnt breaking the no strike clause literally make it open season on the t and c's? I am not very informed on all of this so happy to be correctedEduardo wrote: ↑04 Jan 2023, 20:26The crux of the argument that will not go away is "did we/the Union break this agreement by taking industrial action when we swore not to?"walthmstowman wrote: ↑04 Jan 2023, 20:07No union has agreed to change and modernisation more than the CWU . Re: Cwu where are you ?
They didn't agree to a no strike deal under any circumstances, can't remember the exact wording of it but they didn't agree unequivocally. That would be giving RM the nod to do as they pleased without any resistance. I'm sure dingo/Martin Walsh can clear that one up.
