Warrington Super Hub

Post by clashcityrocker »

I lifted this from the LSE share page.
Is it accurate?

And as for that new 'Super Hub' at Warrington...what a bloody joke that is. Mail ripped open by the machine...so much so they have a department set up just to try and repackage some of it; I say some of it because a lot of it is totally destroyed.

Example. One young lad, whose job it is to try and retrieve the stranded mail, told my mate that one evening he retrieved two small jackets...both ripped to pieces. He googled them...total cost -- £1,100.00! And that is just a fraction of what that bag of sh.t is chewing up every single day; my mate estimates it must be destroying thousands of pounds worth every single week.

And as for lots of other items passing through there each day? Much of it rolling off the track and getting stuck underneath...a lot of it only retrieved weeks later by the engineers using extending grippers when operating cherry-pickers.

Try as they might they cannot hit that 850,000 item target per day...and they never will. The best they have ever achieved is 500,000. The machine is the wrong type for the wrong building...simple as that. The sackings have already started.

Simon Thompson visited several days ago...a day later one of the managers from upstairs (this is where all the trapped mail resides) was sacked. Not surprising in the least. Place is a total disaster zone!!
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Is the Warrington PSM a different machine than what is in standard MC's ?
Assuming it is

Glad to see this super hub rubbish going tits up at the moment

Stupid idea with the sole intention of closing MC's and losing jobs

RM have the MC's already to handle all the mail
More money wasted...only thing RM are good at i think

HWDC - out near Heathrow - had this big super PSM when it firsst opened. It had teething problems for years on end. You think they would have learned from that.

The irony is that it was eventually replaced by some smaller (but still big) ones. They actually appear to work quite well.

Because nobody takes responsibility for anything and literally anything is passed off as a success.

i aint sticking up for rm.....but i work at the above place....yes there is an area for repairing damaged parcels....yes there seems to be quite a lot
BUT
you wouldnt believe the amount of parcels that enter the hub badly transported or packed by original company and by that i mean shoved in yorks lightest parcel at the bottom with dozens of heavy parcels on top
they accept pallets again light parcels packed at the bottom and dead heavy parcels on top.
amazon parcels are so badly sealed 20-30% are already open and out of the parcels as though amazon just rush the packing

so again ye ive seen plenty of royal mail parcels damaged over the years but lately a lot is down to the companies packing as well

exactly this, i work in the surcharge locker and the amount of amazon parcels that have not been sealed properly is staggering, also customers seem to think a bit of brown paper and a couple of bits of sellotape and job done
