The aftermath of VR

Post by geordieboy123 »

Under normal circumstances if there were colleagues leaving on VR it would only occur if their duty can be absorbed by the people that are left and the union rep after consulting the members has signed it off. Now, it seems that people will be allowed to go on VR regardless, so is it the case that the rest of us will pick up the extra calls and will not be allowed to cut off but we will have to continue until finished with the extra time banked?

If this is the case for gods sake vote yes for industrial action again in the re ballot.

I am not working overtime on a ‘Work now, get paid later’ basis. That won’t pay my energy bill. They’re having a giraffe.

Time is money. It's like when we reduced the working week. We didn't get paid more but we worked less, or at least you did if you worked to time because you couldn't do your unchanged duty in less time.
Banking hrs would be fine, you'd end up having an extra 6 weeks annual leave.........or wouldn't it work like that lol .

That isn't what is going to happen.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Don’t think anyone (of us plebs), knows exactly how ‘the plan’ is going to operate.

Not being paid for overtime in money, is a huge disincentive. I don’t mind overtime, but I do expect hard cash for it.

Their original proposal was banking of the first 10 hours you work over then overtime paid on anything over that. Banking of hours would be conditional on your manager agreeing the workload justified it. No explanation on what would happen if you just wanted to work your contracted hours.

Their “final offer” changed to flexible seasonal working. Maximum of 30 minutes a day/2 hours a week but with an agreement to trial banking of hours in 2023.

It seemed pretty clear you couldn't just work your contracted hours, child care commitments aside, if the changes were ever brought in. I'm not sure where the 10 hours figures come from as I thought it was just 30 mins a day, or is that the monthly rather than weekly total?

Given I have almost weekly battles to get my overtime paid in full then there's no way I'm waiting 6 months for banked hours to be refunded, whether it's in less hours worked or pay. I'll just look for a new job where I'm paid in full for working a regular 35/40 hour week.

I wouldn’t work overtime on the basis of jam later.

overtime is not mandatory as far as im concerned as for the actual law im not sure but id imagine you cant be made to work over your time. And then theres the working time directive opt in,opt out.A quick google states If your contract says you have compulsory overtime but it's 'non-guaranteed', your employer doesn't have to offer overtime. But if they do, you must accept and work it. Your employer could take disciplinary action or dismiss you if you don't do the overtime you've agreed to.This would be needed in a new contract if they go down that road.

I can’t see how people who are fast aren’t going to be punished for being fast.

They'll punish the rest of us, our comdom reckons one of the things they'll look at when removing hours from the office is the PDA actuals out on delivery, so in effect the fast, obsessed with finishing early posties will punish the rest of us including slower older ones who can't run round a duty as fast as they do.
