RMCtv : Simon 'Now I know how King Charles feels' Thompson's new year message for all colleagues

team this year we have again made some great progress. but we also cannot ignore the current industrial relations situation and i know things have been tough. for everyone.

i haven't met anyone that wants to disappoint our customers. and when i'm out and about what i hear from you is that you want the industrial dispute resolved. you want to be back at work serving customers in the way only we know how to do. and i want the same. and i'm hopeful that early next year. this is exactly what will happen. we will get a resolution.

but as twenty twenty two draws to a close, i did want to share with you some personal highlights of the year. and we've made great progress and made that great progress thanks to you.

we promised we would focus on growing our business and we have done just that.

sundays continue to grow very strongly. we keep enhancing our parcel collect offer and every week. the volumes keep growing. and why would you as a customer want to drive park and queue to drop your parcel off when we can come to you.

the royal male app usage keeps growing and growing and we've been in the top three lifestyle apps in the app store for most of the year. in fact. we're actually more popular than dating aps who would ever believe that.

we also introduced a bar-coded stamps and we're still wondering what else we can do with this brilliant new capability on top of the embedded videos. we've trialled .

we launched royal mail health expanding into the growing healthcare of home industry. we now have prescription policies bringing pain relief directly to our customers' doors. and let's be honest, when you're not feeling great. do you really want to leave your home to go and pick up your medicine, i don't think so.

and i remember when i joined a ceo around twenty five percent of our parcels were sorted by a machine. i set an ambitious target that many thought could never be achieved. we said that ninety percent of our parcels would be sorted automatically by the end of next fiscal year and the target for this year was seventy percent. we achieved seventy four percent ten days ago. we beat our impossible target with three months to go.

and as i always say, if royal mail wants to achieve something, it is amazing what we can do.

we also opened the northwest superhub in june and it is definitely super. and i was there again last week walking through the end to end process. the team have now figured out how to beat the original business case for quality and cost and that is amazing.

in november, we also began testing the state of the art automation system at our midland superhub. and by next summer, a midnight e commerce order from our retail customers who are located a matter of minutes away. will have their parcel sorted in seven minutes and then on their way to their customers by train a matter of minutes later. we have built an amazing new capability.

at the moment. we're not competing hard enough in the midnight orders for next day delivery market, but very soon we will be and of course our midland super hub is located at the same place as the royal mail academy, a massive investment in our manager's future and i remember opening the site with one of the leadership team from unite and they said to me. this is what they always dreamed would happen for their managers and it's no longer a dream.

it is here we made a commitment to win in the next battleground low co2 per parcel delivered. and we are well on our way to fifty grams of co2 per parcel or the equivalent of a cup of tea with milk from our current level of around about two hundred grams of co2 per parcel. our competitors are currently around double our emissions per parcel and by the time we get to our fifty gram target, they will be nowhere near us and we made the decision to bring forward our target by ten years to get our overall emissions to net zero by twenty.

we now have four thousand electric vehicles in our network, the biggest electric fleet in the u.k.. we continue to strive to move more of our traffic away from domestic air and on to trains rails great for low emissions, great for quality.

and we launched a number of other green initiatives this year too uniform recycling incentives for staff to stop using single use cutlery and new fully recyclable courier bags in parcel force that are made from eighty four percent domestic waste. great quality. a great price. midnight orders delivered the next day lowest emissions in the market delivered by the person you trust the most. no one can beat that proposition.

and to share our future vision during november, we welcomed seven thousand five hundred managers to the royal mail academy for beyond event. an interactive half-day experience that showed that royal mail matters. and it matters to me and it matters to you and it matters to our customers and the energy and enthusiasm about the transformation of royal mail for the next generations was just great to see.

was also lovely to meet everyone in person. i have to say a big thank you to everyone who took part in this event. whether as an organizer representative or as a participant. and for those who did attend, please remember. attitude reflects leadership. captain.

and royal mail was front and center in some of the biggest events to happen in the country of this year. we celebrated the queen's platinum jubilee and we were the official sponsor of the birmingham twenty twenty two queens baton relay and of course sadly we also said goodbye to our beloved queen elizabeth. we all paid our respects and were responsible for the delivery and safe keeping of endless letters and cards containing a global outpouring of grief and sincere condolences to the royal family and all of this quite rightly entrusted to you.

then we welcomed king charles the third. who, when he was still serving as the prince of wales. selected eight winning designs from a world record breaking six hundred thousand entries in our heroes of the pandemic stamp competition. and sean, the sheep made an appearance in our first ever video stamp as well. but the stories that stood out across the area are those about you. our great brilliant team, the lifeblood of royal mail and what our customers see at every doorstep every day and it's something we will always embrace.

the crown awards told us so many stories of bravery, selflessness and kindness, rushing an elderly lady to hospital when she was having a heart attack in her car, rescuing people from overturned vehicles after an accident and the simple act of leaving a toy royal male truck. for a young boy on a motorway bridge stories only we can tell. and it all symbolizes what makes royal male magical. it's why we own trusted the doorstep. it's something our competitors will never have.

royal mail matters you all matter and i hope that the new year brings us a way forward so we can get back to beating the competition by showing them how the job should be done. and look, i know at times it's been tough and i'm really sorry about that. but blue skies will come. thank you for all of your brilliant work this year and a happy new year to you. to your family. to your friends and of course, to our customers.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

He missed out the part where his managers have bullied and harassed 1000's of staff into being off with stress and depression.

royal mail matters you all matter...
And so does punctuation.

If that was his GCSE English language exam, he would have failed.

On electric vehicles for which the charging infrastructure alone will bankrupt the company if they ever manage to install a charging point for every ev.

And massive parcel hubs because parcels are going to increase by 40% allegedly. That would take the volume of parcels to a greater amount than we handled during the pandemic when it was like Christmas pressure every day. His marriage to parcels will be his downfall.

This guy is a CEO of a major company and he doesn't even start sentences with a capital letter. He also started one with 'and'.
