Will that really save jobs in DOs?
It's a bit late now but I think what might have saved jobs was IF in the past Revisions had been "Truthfull & Realistic" :hmmmm

A lot of the workforce were compicite in helping to produce a distorted vision of the ammount of work required in their DO. :no no The CWU have been banging on about "Working Properly" for years, but nobody listened. Posties coming in early (and not claiming the OT) .... Posties prepping households in their own time (and not claiming the OT) .... The Old Favourite working through your Meal Breaks (and not claiming the OT)..... Cutting Corners/Streaming/Culling bringing mail back, due to volumes, and not reporting it ..... Doorstepping (to avoid the time taken to 739 or wait for the occupant to answer). There's probably more that I've forgotten.

A lot of these habits developed over years as a tactic to deal with the constant daily arguments that Posties were having with lazy, incompetent Managers who were also passing on a distorted view of their DO's to their Bosses .... "Yeah everything's great Boss ... No problems the decks are cleared..... Can I have my Bonus now"? ;liar

It's no wonder that Management further up the line have NO IDEA what's happening in their DOs, because they've never encouraged Truth & Transparency from their Low Level Managers .... because they were only interested in their Bonuses! :speak to the hand

Years later it's now hard for us to turn around and say "Well Yes it "should" have been taking me longer than I said to complete this duty ... but I just wanted to get finished and knock off ..... IF I'd delivered it as you wanted me to it would have taken too long"! :cuppa
Like all Wage Slaves, he had two crosses to bear: The people he worked for and the people he worked with! (Stephen Vizinczey.)

My guess is that staff will be split into those who deliver letters only and those who deliver parcels only (probably all require vans). The ones doing letters only will probably be working 12hr days
Now I know why people say on here you say a lot about Delivery whilst not having a clue about it

Just like the jobs inside MCs will be unrecognisable in the next few years (mainly as a result in greatly increased automation, though in practice it'll just mean less agency/casuals needed), I wouldn't be surprised if deliveries were also unrecognisable in the same time frame

Would you rather loads of staff lose their jobs in DOs? :cuppa
if it was 12 hour days in Delivery then everybody would lose their jobs because no one would stay or join :chuckle

If you had ever did a 5 hour walk you would know that though
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Realistically for DOs isn't it really a case of either all walks being made MUCH longer or most staff in DOs being forcibly dropped down to part time hours?

I’m not arguing doing three day weeks wouldn’t have job losses

I’m telling you that there won’t be 12 hour days

And if there is, no one will be doing them

What start and finish time do you envision in this 12 hour day exactly?
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

It's anyone's guess, I don't believe that the currently proposed changes to start and finish times are finalised yet

Well then maybe it’s best you don’t speculate that there would be 12 hour days in delivery

The start and finish time isn’t even the main issue anyway, no one is staying or joining to be doing 9 hour walks of letters ( no stopping to knock on as many doors for parcels so would be on the move for entire walk )

Or 8 hours for that matter

Or even 7 hours

It’s an absolutely ludicrous suggestion from someone who hasn’t ever did a walk in delivery

Most of us on delivery don’t speculate what shifts you mail centre workers will do and what your work entails because that’s not our area of expertise - maybe you should stick to what you know
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

We don't know for sure what our new start and finish times will be. Apart from mech duties I don't think anyone will have a duty as such, you'll just get placed and moved around as to where the work is, which isn't really much different from now where we get moved around depending on when where the work is. Based on current arrival patterns I think that final dispatch times and our start and finish times will be put back enough that DOs end up being 09:00-17:00 when you factor in the lorries getting caught in traffic on their way to DOs

Why?

Because of the drop in required indoor hours.
Either the delivery span is longer or the contracted hours are shorter.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

A 3 day week is a part-time job. We won’t be paid full-time rates for only working 3 days. So it isn’t something I would be cheerleading for. I’d be looking for another job.

They dropped in the words Carbon footprint and all that green bollocks so the politicians will agree eventually. Our house hasn't had a 3 day delivery service in years so won't make any difference here.

I don't think they can make full timers reduce their hours to part time. They could make people redundant, they could add extra parcel delivery to routes, they will make walks longer, and don't forget you will be working Sundays.
