Same at my office, quite broadly spread. All this easy days talk will be coming to an end soon anyway. Be interesting to see if we can still leave early though or if they would make us leave on our exact finish time's.
I can see then keeping us to our finish time even if it’s just throwing off junk mail for the next day.
I don’t think there’s an issue personally with being allowed to leave 20 minutes early or so. It’s the leaving 3 hours early that’s just not viable in a good business model.

Do you actually read your own posts? You come across as if you've got a pretty piss easy duty! IF ..... We can still leave early. FFs
It'd be a real shame if they actually made you work the hours they're paying you for wouldn't it? I think you want to try one of the DOs that's understaffed, and struggling to get duties delivered at all, before you start worrying about not being able to knock off early!
Like all Wage Slaves, he had two crosses to bear: The people he worked for and the people he worked with! (Stephen Vizinczey.)
IMO if your NOT taking your Meal Breaks, and you're working your Days Off than you haven't got that hard a Delivery.
Or you just have more energy than postmen that need a ‘rest day’ to recuperate.
Taking meal breaks is fair enough. It’s a good perk to have but also your body needs fuel for the day.
I was waiting for all those Uber Posties who go for a gym session after work and run marathons at the weekend to chip in.
An alternative view is that by working your Day Off you're encouraging your Manager to deliberately understaff his unit, and your denying the Day Off Cover (if you've got any) the opportunity to familiarise themselves with your duty (so when they do eventually get put on it ... they're struggling more than necesssary).

Since the strike's, people haven't been leaving early at my office. I'm talking pre strike's & when I say early I'm talking by about 30 mins on the "easier day's". Maybe an hour early if they're running around.
But let's not pretend we haven't had day's were we've finished early. Is that what your saying? The pretentiousness on here is off the scale, bloody hell

Agree, in our case in depends on which manager we have on. The main manager has let us go early in the past if all the work is clear. I wouldn't try leaving 3 hours early though. That's asking for trouble, start adding to your walk or giving you extra work.

I don’t go to the gym or do marathons. But I don’t get to the end of a 6 day working week feeling exhausted either. If I work my day off I usually get put on a walk where someone has gone off sick or on holiday.
Stopped reading when it started working class blah blah blah.... no doubt one of the comrades who rang in sick so regularly you could put it in your calander. The one who always goes home 2 hours before everyone else. Called the new lad sad because they wanted to do a bit of overtime,
whilst they did ghost overtime themselves in the pub with management and other comrades for centuries..

I believe that's how it should work. If someone wants to work their Day Off they fill in where necessary.
Unfortunately in my DO it's more a case of, "I want to work my Day Off BUT I'm only going to do it IF I'm on my own duty".
As usual the COM takes the easy option (because he knows that Postie will probably cry off if he has to do another duty) and it's the Reserve that gets pushed onto the Shite Duty that nobody wants to do.

Let me guess you have a long & impeccable history of finishing bang on time or working over
Just the Luck of the draw mate .... or rather waiting a decade for dead man's shoes and then just signing for a duty because at least you'll know what you're doing the next day. Quite a few duties in my DO are what you'd consider Too Large and they very rarely finish In Time, let alone early. Mine does happen to be one of them.
We do have a few that finish bang on time, every day, which upsets the COM because as he says, "You'd expect to see at least some small difference in timings depending on the ammount of mail"!
We've also got a few that finish Well Early Every Day! But it has taken those Duty Holders literally years of moaning & whinging to get their duty gradually salami sliced down to were they're happy with it. Did I say Happy with it? Well they still have a good moan... just to keep in practice.
I'm sure your DO has a mixture, or are they all exactly the same?

There is one walk in my office that is mostly flats and apartments. If I sprint around I can just about get it done yet the regular chap finishes hours early. I have no idea how he does it.
The easiest walk in my office takes me just over 2 hours to do and the hardest is about 4.5 hours…. My walk is just under 4 which suits me. Means I can still talk to folk and sometimes do some shopping and still finish on time.
But we are told the computer worked out these walks so they are all equal.

This is why we have to be careful not to judge everyone by our own office FG. Every DO is different. There is No Duty in my DO that is 2 hours long. If I'd managed to complete mine in 4.5 hours I'd be happy ... sometimes it's nearer 6 hours, and I'm not the only one.
Your DO may have had a decent revision in the past that made walks achievable, a lot didn't. You can see how if you're talking about the 2 hour Duty to someone that's got a 6 hour Duty there's a lot of room for disagreement.

Yep. But:… if you did the 2 hour duty properly (use a trolley) it takes a lot longer. People are rushing about and that can look bad on folk who do the job properly or are simply older or slower.

He might be using that old excuse "I couldn't get in those block of flats today " lol That can knock alot of time off using that trick. Never been a fan of those shortcuts myself as I don't like to stitch up the person on it the day after or put more work on myself the day after.
Or maybe he's just done it that much he has become quick. That's usually the reason.
