Next Strike Dates

2 questions to establish when dates are possible

1) What date does the current ballot mandate end? I.e. when can the union announce fresh strike days up to until a new ballot is needed.

2) How much notice does the union have to give for strike days? I.e. could they spring a few days in January under the current ballot.

For those of us worrying about lost pay if the current mandate ends soon (and before any notice period for new strikes on the current mandate) then hopefully there will be a bit of a respite before (and if) another one kicks in. Cheers.

There is still a mandate in place for strike action, 14 days notice required however I believe they will pause until the next ballot takes place. A strong yes vote in the next ballot will be very important as all eyes will be on the resolve of the workforce. I think they genuinely believed they would starve members back into work after 5 or 6 of the summer strikes. It’s interesting that we have had no spin about more people returning to work this time, we know it’s not true and the leadership have massively underestimated the workforce.

This is my opinion too. The dispute was never going to be sorted with just Christmas. It might be the busiest time of year, but there's another 11mths that, from RM's perspective, are equally as important. It does seem as though they are aiming to starve us out, and let support wane, while they continue to demoralise, and beat us down with whatever they can. It really has been a stick over carrot approach by RM. The next ballot result needs to send a loud and clear message, that RM's approach has not only made us more determined, but galvanised the union more than ever. I can see the CWU holding off strikes for a short period to give members space to breath. I've always thought the path they have to navigate, has to keep the IA sustainable, and is focused on longevity. Its constant long-term disruption that this, like any other, business can not maintain.

Okay thanks all. So that means no strike days for the next 2 weeks at least if they have to give 2 weeks notice. And as you say we will just have to wait and see if there are any strike days before 17 Feb. I think the union is doing the best they can. Disrupt royal mail as best as they can whilst letting those who need to work overtime and their days off and a few weeks respite in-between each batch. The union will be critised for not striking enough or striking too much and so they have to find a balance.

Hopefully the CWU and RM can actually have proper talks and maybe they will find a middle ground.

Personally, I think any deal now will be for the April lot. ST said as much last month. As we have had no deal this year (of note) it could be something like a 13/14% pay raise in April with some of the terms changed.

But we will see. I’ll continue to work through the strikes and walk past the picket. Not my union. How does that saying go, not my circus not my monkeys?
