Understaffing is a major issue and has been going on a long time. Staff on the pathetic 25 hour contracts will do overtime to make up hours and so the work gets cleared which makes it appear to management that they need fewer people doing larger walks. At the same time you have the nitwits ‘working’ ghost hours who let everyone know about it. Why brag about finishing hours early? Especially now when they are actively trying to terminate people.seesred wrote: ↑24 Dec 2022, 12:18It should be, but Royal Mail is not interested in playing ball. That is not the fault of the CWU. No staff replaced and no new employees where I work since 2016. That is how long Royal Mail had been deliberately allowing staff numbers to decline to the point that the MC where I work is barely functional in any meaningful way. The jobs that already exist can't be preserved, let alone trying to create new ones, and that isn't just a local problem.

If nobody ever crossed a picket line, there'd be fewer, and much shorter, disputes.

Re: Solidarity and Empathy also to our Agency Colleagues
Well I appreciate that these guys need to work but to be honest they have been nothing but a pain they’ve come into our place and expected to get trained up in one day most of them make mistakes everywhere and simply cannot cope with the job as they haven’t got enough experience. The problem lies with the Royal Mail management who believe that agency guys are the future they underestimated just how important we are and maybe bring an agency guy might actually Make them realize how hard we work. Two guys crossed a picket line last week who were agency staff explained to them the situation they just shrug their shoulders and said I’m just coming here to work mate not interested this is the problem with them 90% couldn’t care less about the Royal Mail as they are only there for a few weeks or months worryingly this is what the management want and this is the future we have to keep fighting for to stop this.

Re: Solidarity and Empathy also to our Agency Colleagues
As stated previously
They are Royal Mail contracted Chrstmas Casuals who have now had their contracts terminated. Very few Angard workers who have been with the company over 12 weeks would cross a picket line.

Re: Solidarity and Empathy also to our Agency Colleagues
Is there solidarity and empathy for the GLS employees who are on less pay with worse T&C's than RM UK employees... but those same UK employees expect to receive a pay rise courtesy of the profits generated by the GLS employees?

At my mc angard workers always work during strikes and look forward to the next strike dates, more hours for them!….difficult to have any sympathy or empathy for them.

CWU have shat on them from a great height saying they want them out. And you want to them to support and not cross pickets?Barnacle wrote: ↑24 Dec 2022, 10:06When P&O workers were on strike and then sacked, agency workers who turned up and then realised who they were replacing, rejected the work. Can’t say I’ve heard a single agency worker who turns up to replace us while on strike, say ‘I’m not doing this’. They are all completely happy to cross the picket line.
I have zero sympathy or empathy for their lot. They chose it.

They are agency. There are other agencies. No one is forcing them to work for the very agency that is involved in undermining the striking workers of the same parent company.

Re: Solidarity and Empathy also to our Agency Colleagues
But the point still stands, why would they support themselves out of a job? Makes no sense 'one day it will be them' It wont because they wont have a jobBarnacle wrote: ↑25 Dec 2022, 13:48post6675 wrote: ↑25 Dec 2022, 13:19If CWU get their way they wont have ajob lmao should they support their own job loss?Barnacle wrote: ↑25 Dec 2022, 12:42One day it will be them. It’s not about ‘supporting a union’, it’s about not crossing a picket line because if enough of you do that we all lose.
It’s morally wrong to cross a picket line and work in a job belonging to a worker outside.
NOTHING you say will move me from this position.

You may have a different point of view on breaking the picket line but that’s your own opinion.

Re: Solidarity and Empathy also to our Agency Colleagues
Royal Mail must commit to prioritising the removal of all agency staff before voluntary redundancies take place and confirm they will not hire new entrants across the business to replace existing workers who decide to take voluntary redundancy.
[/b]
And that is the problem and issue
Being a member of a Trade Union is about protecting peoples jobs and conditions at work as a collectIve force.
Many Angard workers are long serving and CWU members that the CWU want now gone.
Why do Royal Mail contracted staff think they are superior as a worker?
Why should they stand on the picket line shouder to shoulder supporting their colleagues when their colleagues treat them with such contempt and in reality, cutting their own throats with that support?
Shame on the CWU
