Electric vans conspiracy theory

Came across this strange YouTube video, by a sort of conspiracy theorist

Not really into his political views, but it’s worth a view as he explains that RM didn’t buy the vans with Their own money ( dispite Simon saying that they spent the profits on “modernisation of the fleet ) the money comes from a government scheme ( tax payers money )

Not sure if it’s all true, what do you think?

You do get grants for buying EVs but it would still work out more expensive then buying an ICE van. No road tax on them either till 2025 but you still have to put charging infrastructure in every yard. Most people I know who have EVs buy them through their company.

I suspect that many DOs would need a complete re-wire to be able to handle the electrical load of x number of vans being charged up overnight. from a quick Google, it looks like the average domestic EV charger draws around 7-7.2Kw times that by x number of vans and you'll probably blow the main electrical fuse of a site

Yeah like ours bang in the centre of town.are there loads I thought ours was one of the only ones didn't realize it was so common.

Our office has a complete rewire if the car park. Charging points installed, massive job.

Comes to hook up to the trading estate grid, turns out the connection isn't there, it's actually over a field (that isn't RMs) and in to a housing estate, well over 500m away. Now there's 2 electric vans, charged off the sockets through a window in the managers office

Ours is a rental , we've had the carpark ripped up and charging points installed.

I don't think that staff should park their cars in a EV charging bay, as this makes it difficult to find a spare charging point when you return to the office.

If RM do roll out a lot more EVs then they'll probably make parking in a charging bay a conduct code offence

We've had EV's at our DO for a few months now and although I quite like driving them, the parking and charging is a bit of a nightmare.

We have about 1 charging point for every 3 vans, which is ok in the summer as the batteries hold their charge better in the warmer weather. I can get 4 days worth out of it.

But a full charge of my Mercedes only lasts 2 days in winter. A 100% battery lasts 20 miles less and you can see the expected mileage go down as soon as you turn the heater on!

They're a nice idea, but not particularly practical.

We have over 100 ev at our place but only 50 charging points kept tripping out all the time and had to get new transformer fitted at a cost of 85,000 lost our parking spaces as well and have to charge up every day because of the cold weather as having heated on sucks power of battery really cost effective

....meanwhile the company cannot even afford to replace all the drivers seats in the vans ( most of them) at our office. You are honestly in danger of doing yourself an injury in most of them on the metal showing. It's a disgrace.

Tbh I wish they would anyway. Ours is a small office with no space whatsoever round the back… full of people pulling their vans out and quickly parking there cars there, making getting out everyday a nightmare

Seriously? That’s bloody awful. How many miles are you driving on your duty on average per day?

I do about 20 miles per day.

In the summer a full charge was 100 miles, and to be on the safe side it lasted 4 days.

In the winter a full charge has been 80 miles, but if you put the heater on, that knocks at least 10 miles off. So I'm using a minimum of 30 battery miles to drive 20 actual miles.
I suppose heaters aren't essential all of the time, but when the temperature is below zero and the windscreen is misted up, they come in handy!

The parcel drivers do more miles and have to charge theirs everyday.

Then there's the morons who use them on SA in the afternoons and don't bother to plug them in afterwards.
